About
The attractive shape of the only city gate remaining in Hanoi harks back to a time when the city was under siege. Walk through the arched main entrance of the Hanoi Old City Gate and imagine being one of the soldiers who heroically defended the city from this spot during several sieges, as well as the French and American wars. Admire the curved roof of the central tower and gaze up at the red and yellow Vietnamese flag flying in the wind. Built in 1749, this is the last remaining gate of the many that once surrounded the perimeter of the old city. Known locally as Quan Chuong, it takes its name from a military leader who lost his life fighting the French here in 1843. Reflect on the fact that the gate was important once again in resisting the French in 1946 to 1947.

We saw it by chance when we were walking in the old quarter, a nice place to take beautiful pictures for memory. It is good to take care of these places.

Initially walked through the gate on our food tour. Went back for another look during the day. Is nice all lit up at night and nice to keep the bit of history. Can get very busy around this area so it is hard to have a good look without getting taken out by a scooter!

We were doing a longer walk around the Old Quarter and came past this gate. It is not large but a significant piece of history. Worth a quick look and a photo.

Staying nearby, this was easily accessible via a walk through, across and along the crazy and exciting streets of Hanoi. Not going to warrant much time, but worth a look.

It is the only one out of 21 original entrances to the old Thang Long Citadel to survive over a thousand years.now it is a very busy gate, people and motorbike go in and out.be careful when you want to take some pics of it.you can see also the everyday life around the gate.

I mean maybe because I have been to so many historical places in Hanoi already so another one like this could be skipped for me.

This is the oldest city gate in Hanoi with lots of traffic passing through this gate everyday. Always keep a lookout for the traffic when you were there

The gate doesn't look impressive but it is still historically significant as the only remaining ancient city gate of Hanoi. This is just a short walk from other spots in the Old Quarter so you can check it out along the way.
