This is the largest lake in Ha Noi, in a part of the Hay To area that has a lot of lakeside restaurants and activities. The well known Don's Bistro Hay To overlooks the lake. There are several hotels and beautiful villas. IMO, not a top attraction in itself, but worth seeing if in the neighborhood. Went in March, 2013.

So my experience was good. The boat where we were at was super old and difficult to steer(what a leg workout! Which we actually didn't mind). The cost was 100K (for the whole day). Got wet while pedaling, still trying to figure out how...the lake is very dirty but if you go farther away from the restaurants and such then... More

West Lake is divided into two sides of the street. It is a peaceful setting to relax from the busy rush of Hanoi. You can buy a coconut or feed turtles.

Not the most pleasant of places. There were dead fish floating on the shore-line. The temple was shut both times that I visited. The pollution was so bad that is was difficult to see the other side of the lake. The only good thing I could say was the I walked there.

Expecting a casual walk around a sludge-ridden lake, I was exceptionally excited to arrive with my poor defenseless boyfriend to a Swan boat-packed water's edge. I had managed to hide my romantic giddiness towards the clunky cliches for a year, but the jig was up. The lake is the kind of beautiful that is almost dreamlike. It might be the... More

Highly recommendation for a cyclo tour around Hanoi. Enjoying the view from one of the nearby restaurant or coffee shops is also a nice choice.
