Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is a unit under Vietnam Academy of Scocial Sciences. Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is both a research centre and a public museum exhibiting the ethnic groups of Vietnam. The mission of the Museum is scientific research, collection, documentation, conservation, exhibition and preserving the cultural and historic patrimony of the nation's different ethnic groups. The museum also serves to guide research, conservation, and technology that are specific to the work of an ethnographic museum.

The museum is a must see for any visitor to Vietnam but in particular if you intend to visit the Sapa area. You will then have an excellent grounding to understand the diverse ethnic minorities found in this region.

We spent about an 1 1/2 hrs and I found it very interesting and well set out explaining all the different groups that make up Vietnam and how their cultures differ.

Very family friendly, rich with historical information and artefacts. Make sure you are their by 12noon to see the water puppet show.

You want to learn about VN ethnic groups? You want to visit a museum but with a lot of outdoor space not only indoor? - Please come here, you will enjoy P/S: children also will like this museum for sure

The inside parts of this museum are not particularly inspiring, but the reconstructed houses in the open air are great and very interesting. My only comment would be that all staff inside the houses were just sat there on their phones and didn't interact with...More

Good place to understand more about Vietnam culture, I especially liked the outdoor exhibits where they bring the homes of various minorities to the museum.

Hi, lt was not quite easy. I took a public bus no. 14 from hoan kiem to the museum just google map your location & destination and you can see the public bus number around the city in Hanoi only show them where you will drop... More
