The OA Show is in Hanoi and Hoi an, we went to Hoi an, it was expensive at £35 pp for an hour and a half roughly. It's a show taking you through the history of Vietnam using Bamboo - I'll say no more .. this is a spectacular show and I strongly recommend you go along. Sit in the centre, not right near the front but in the middle or near the back is fine.

Although it is mainly attracting a local audience, the New Year Circus performance which we attended was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday in Hanoi. Unless you are so fully booked that you don't have time to go here or if you simply don't like circuses, the less than $10 entrance fee should not be a reason not to go here. The clowns were fun, so were the monkeys. The acrobats gave an entertaining show, only the bear show was a bit sad, as the tricks they had to do seemed a bit beyond what their body is build for and they did not seem very happy doing the performance. For the rest the show was simply fun and enjoyable.

The performance comprises of: dancing, magic shows, acrobat performances, monkey/dogs performance and elephants performance. Quite entertaining for the kids.

We went on Sunday show which is cheaper at 100,000 dong per adult or child. Saturday show should be 200,000 dong. No need to buy tickets in advance, you can buy it upon arrival. Not crowded.

Show duration around 1hr 45 mins.

It is around 10-15 mins drive from old quarters. We took taxi from old quarters around 72,000 dong. Return is cheaper at 52,000 dong.

With the price we pay, of course we cannot expect those cirque de soleil kind of performance. It is more of those performance of 70s or early 80s.

Overall we enjoy ourselves very much.

Difficult what to think about this circus theater. I love the setting of an old communist circus temple. The theatre is big with 1500 seats, lighting is great, show is long and entrance fee is very low (from 120.000 at daytime to 150.000 or 200.000 in the evening). We really saw some perfect and awesome acrobatic acts here, we've never seen anywhere before. Thats already really worth to see this.

BUT: There are also some acts with animals (the act with dogs was ok) that seem to be rather cruel. As I saw the acts with monkees or the act with the elephant I was not happy how they worked with these animals. There seemed to be a lot of pushing, poking and even some beating. And I really hope they will take these acts out because there is a lot of quality in the other acts they have.

We went for the (one weekly) Sunday 9:30 am Kids show. We arrived at 8:00 to buy the tickets and entered the beautiful old circus building
The circus is well worth the money, a good 2 hours show with everything from acrobatics to animal shows. Even if this is the kid's show, it was exciting also for us adults.

The acrobatic shows are world class.
We liked most animal shows and most animals did look pretty well kept, but we hated the Elephant show.
The Elephant keeper had a hook masked within plastic flowers…that was NOT the worst, the worst was that they pierced a hole in one of the ears and pulled a rope through to control and steer the Elephant. The Elephant did look very sad and we was also taken down by that. Release the elephant to a rehabilitation place in the jungle and your Circus is world class. Keep it and it is just too sad.

We took a Grab car there from the hotel in the old quarters and it was about 13min drive. Name in Vietnamese is Rạp Xiếc Trung Ương

After reading a family guide to Hanoi, I decided to head to the circus with my 6 year old. They did a 9am Sunday morning circus aimed at young kids I think.
Despite being all in Vietnamese my daughter loved every minute. It was entertaining, and the aerial acts were actually very high quality. I personally hated the animal acts and was a bit disturbed by them (the animals riding bikes and performing tricks did not look happy and I really wonder why Hunan tricks can't be enough) but my daughter loved all the animal acts too. If you have young kids I would definitely recommend going.
I only gave it 4 stars because of the animals.

Children said this was one of their favorite things in Hanoi. They excitedly watched the animals and the people, although the performance was all in Vietnamese and the majority of people were locals. The theatre was about 90% full on the Sunday morning 10:30 show. Apparently the Sunday morning shows are more geared towards children and are also cheaper than the evening show. People kept coming in so it didn't actually start until about 10:50 a.m. We bought the tickets when we arrived about 10:15. Cost was 120K. There was an elephant, two monkeys, dogs, cats, a bear riding a bike etc. The animals looked well fed and seemed cared for; they didn't have to "work" long in the circle - just a few minutes max and then out, in comparison to some places with all day child labour and people working all day in monotonous jobs. There were some very good acrobats and there was obviously a traditional Vietnamese story, or story the people may have been familiar with. Although we couldn't understand it, we could tell what was happening. This "story" lasted quite awhile with a lot of action and various characters.

Timetable had been changed frequently, but we could join the circus at last. If you want to watch it you should go to the ticket counter directly.
There are less places for kids in Hanoi. All boys and girls seemed to enjoy the show. Some sections are composed with Vietnam traditional music and costume. These were good.
We don't speak Vietnamese, It was a little hard for us to communicate with other audiences. During the show we didn't need to worry about language.
If you have enough time in Hanoi and travel with kids, I recommend this circus.
