A rare breed of turtle enjoys this popular lake almost as much as countless locals and tourists. Hoan Kiem Lake is a dynamic daily tableau, from morning walks amid locals doing exercises on the shore, to young couples water-gazing on park benches, to the multiple shopping and sight-seeing opportunities in the vicinity. Centrally located in the city, Hoan Kiem Lake serves as a massive home base, and provides endless people-watching and recreational opportunities on the edge of the Old Quarter.

A very picturesque lake right in downtown Hanoi. It is especially beautiful in the evening. A short walk around the lake yields different views of Hanoi life. One evening seems to have been dedicated to wedding pictures being taken of newly-weds (We saw about 30...More

Worth a walk around, refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of the city. We got stopped a couple of times by eager Vietnamese students/children looking to practice their English, which was a little unexpected but enjoyable.

You will pass this lake anyway because it is in the middle of the old quarter. Apart from its legend it is no real attraction in itself . The small temple is nice and quiet although you have to pass hordes of tourists taking selfies...More

This was one of the few photogenic spots in Hanoi. You could visit the temple for a fee, of about 30k Dong for adults (remember to dress decently, no shorts or mini-skirts), or walk along the water's edge. The lake itself is green but it...More

Strolled here today and paid to visit the island and temple. For less than £3 was worth taking in the view and enjoying the bridge which is floodlit in bright red at night. Don’t forget to take a look at the huge turtle, Central to...More

The lake view is average actually, but during weekend at night, they closed the entire street so we can enjoy the night view (the beautiful lighting) while walking around the lakes, wrapping our jacket, talking to our companion, eating pork satay from the street 🙂👍🏻

This lake is located at the Old Quarter and is never short of activities whether day or night. At night, a walk around the lake will be filled with lights, food, cafes, bars and many young couples sitting by the lake. This spot is closed...More

Travelling in Hanoi, especially in the Old Quarter area was made easy as long as we know the direction to Hoan Kiem Lake. There's so much we can do at and around the lake. They'll closed the roads around the lake every weekend and people...More

the locals get up pretty early to do their exercises. If you go there around 4 a.m/5am. you will already see people running and old ladies exercising

I live in Hanoi and, although of course you have to use normal common sense in protecting your valuables, this is probably one of the safest cities in Asia. And the Hoan Kiem Lake at night is beautiful. Would recommend... More
