Visitors can see the Presidential palace, fish point, Pergola, Orchard, cars, the house of 1954 and especially the historic house on stilts of Ho Chi Minh which symbolize his way of living, and how he worked as a President. The whole area is full of light and fragrant flowers from gardens around. This is one of the historic sites of Hanoi and must visit location.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 November 2023

This attraction is one of the several attractions located in the vicinity. My guide pointed it to me and learned that it is not open to the public. Since there are other open attractions to visit in the area such as the Museum, Pagoda, the wide open space, etc. we proceeded to visit them.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 16 April 2024

Booked the open top jeep to travel around the city, our guide Ken was amazing and very knowledgeable about the history of Vietnam. The tour took one and a half hours, we also went to the post office which next to the cathedral which was under renovation. The inside of the post office was superb and a throw back to days gone by.
We then went to the war museum which was quite amazing but overwhelming due to the graphic details of the war.
We then went to a restaurant for dinner and a few drinks. All up a great private tour and worth it

The site is a group of buildings and gardens around the Presidential Palace, rather than just th epalace - just as well as you can't visit the palace. That said the palace is a beautiful example of French colonial architecture painted the signature yellow of Vietnamese government buildings.
It is reall the gardens and smaller building that are interesting. Ho Chi Minh's stilt house, his other small home and the remnants of 1950/60s furnishings. The gardens are lovely with wnoderful mature trees and a glade of pomello trees.

The Presidential palace is not open to the public, however we had the opportunity visit the 2 houses he worked from. On display are the cars he was gifted by the Russians. He was a simple and hard working leader and set the standard to serve his people. He often worked the full days on Public holidays. Its best to tour with a guide so that you are able to obtain the full information. Well worth the visit. The lawns are well kept.

I went here just the outside before the pandemic - When you walk towards Hoang Van Thu Street from Ba Dinh Square, you will see a huge yellow palace which is the Presidential Palace of Hanoi. It's a European-inspired palace which incorporates Italian Renaissance elements. This isn't open to the public but this place holds government meetings.

Was all blocked off and guarded, so no one was allowed in to see the grounds which was unfortunate. But what was a little silly was, you werent allowed to take photos. Thought that was a bit odd when you could literally walk 10 meters up the road and take a photo. Wondered if maybe someone official may be there that day as there did seem alot of armed guards around that area.

The entrance fee was only 40000 VND and after paying I received my receipt and a glossy pamphlet describing all the sites. There was a lot of tour groups wandering around during my visit so there was a lot of jostling when it came to viewing the different displays.
I was disappointed that there was no entrance into the palace itself and that I could not get close enough for a decent view. What they do let you see are buildings off to the side of the palace and the insides were mainly viewable through the windows or large glass panes.
Three of Ho Chi Ming’s cars were on display along alongside the Politburo office where he received guests and held meetings. He lived in House No 54 which I walked by and took a photo of his workroom. A cage with two peacocks were viewable but not many people paid them attention except these guys who were making all sorts of weird noises to attract their attention. It did not work. The last building was a stilt house. I then crossed a bridge where a number of tourists were feeding coy fishes and followed the path around “Uncle Ho’s Fishpond”. Along the pond there were a lot of cypress tree roots sticking upwards and were quite unusual.
At the end of the pond, the path led to a bunch of food stalls and souvenirs stands. Bathrooms here were much less crowded than the one at the main entrance.
Overall it was a good visual history about where Ho Chi Minh spent some of his time.

Hi,
I'm wanting to take my mum to Vietnam (and Cambodia) in November 2021 (Covid allowing) but I'm worried that I have too many museums on the itinerary that will all be very similar: I have the War Remnants Museum and the Museum of Vietnamese History in HCMC, and the Presidential Palace and Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi.
Are these museums super similar? And do they mainly focus on the Vietnam War or do they include Vietnamese history and culture both before and after? I don't like how Vietnam is mainly acknowledged for the Vietnam War :/
Thankssssss

Hi, Hayley 742:
As regards Hanoi and the Vietnam War, I would say that visiting the (solemn) Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the (humble) Ho Chi Minh's House on Stilts and the (historical) Presidential Palace are more than enough. The are so many other interesting places, as lakes, temples and traditional quarters, to be visited and admired.
I wrote recently on Vietnam and you can read my reviews about Hanoi, Ha Long, Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang and HCM City. I wrote also about Cambodia and Laos.
Feel free to contact me at any doubt. Take care. Best regards
