"Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional music means that you've not discovered the real spirit of Vietnam yet." "Free yourself and get immersed in ca tru while enjoying performance by Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre. It is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. Long-time history, unique instruments, impressive music tones and meaningful song lyrics made ca tru recognized by UNESCO as the World Intangible Cutural Heritage." "This is a concert for about 70 persons held in an old temple in the old quarter of Hanoi. They are good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission" "The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote The show is on every Thursday and Saturday night at 8pm at 28 Hang Buom (Quan De Temple).

We stumbled across this small theatre and loved the Golden Bell Show which is roughly an hour worth of several Vietnamese songs and dances with pretty costumes and fancy stage set-ups. At times amusingly like an amateur theatre production it's a fun treat for us...More

We happened upon a brochure for this concert at our travel agency. Ca Tru is traditional Vietnamese music with singing and instruments--- all a Capella. Lovely experience. Set in an old temple. The musicians and singers are clearly doing this for love of the culture...More

Ca tru, an ancient traditional type of music was forgotten for a hundred years. The music is foreign to our western ears. But the musicians live the music with heart and soul. This little theater has concerts almost every evening at eight and it is...More

While walking through Hanoi's old town in December, I stumbled upon this quaint temple and was invited to the show. I did not regret my spontaneous decision to join the small audience of 8 people (later we were joined by another 6 or so), and...More

I'm always pleased to see a concerted effort to preserve traditional art forms. This one almost disappeared and according to the hosts, only through the efforts of the Vietnamese government and two elderly masters has it been revived. The music comes from rural areas of...More

Did try this show by following of TA suggestion. It was my first experience of Ca Tru. It was really soothing. Showing people, for some time, allowed the audience to try the music instruments. Although not for everyone, it's suitable to the folk music lovers!

Beautiful singers in traditional custom with lovely voices were trying to protect and bring into play the nation's tradition. I loved them and admired them.
