"Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional music means that you've not discovered the real spirit of Vietnam yet." "Free yourself and get immersed in ca tru while enjoying performance by Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre. It is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. Long-time history, unique instruments, impressive music tones and meaningful song lyrics made ca tru recognized by UNESCO as the World Intangible Cutural Heritage." "This is a concert for about 70 persons held in an old temple in the old quarter of Hanoi. They are good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission" "The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote The show is on every Thursday and Saturday night at 8pm at 28 Hang Buom (Quan De Temple).

Ca tru, an ancient traditional type of music was forgotten for a hundred years. The music is foreign to our western ears. But the musicians live the music with heart and soul. This little theater has concerts almost every evening at eight and it is well worth going to the concert. It was enchanting... Ps: some Trip Advisor comments here... More

While walking through Hanoi's old town in December, I stumbled upon this quaint temple and was invited to the show. I did not regret my spontaneous decision to join the small audience of 8 people (later we were joined by another 6 or so), and listen to the ancient instruments and songs. The effort to revive and maintain the traditions... More

Tucked away in the grounds of an old temple on the streets of the old quarter, the government and a group of artists are trying to revive the art of Ca Tru. Its a beautiful blend of female vocals and traditional instruments that is captivating and entirely blissful. Its performed in Vietnamese so you might not get the full story,... More

Saw this with my wife last night. The music was beautiful and it was an enjoyable evening in the open air pagoda. We bought our tickets at the door the same night with no problem. It would have added to the performance if they had explained what each song was about before they sang it. Highly recommended.

I'm always pleased to see a concerted effort to preserve traditional art forms. This one almost disappeared and according to the hosts, only through the efforts of the Vietnamese government and two elderly masters has it been revived. The music comes from rural areas of northern Vietnam. It is very far from the Western tradition, so do not expect a... More

Did try this show by following of TA suggestion. It was my first experience of Ca Tru. It was really soothing. Showing people, for some time, allowed the audience to try the music instruments. Although not for everyone, it's suitable to the folk music lovers!

Beautiful singers in traditional custom with lovely voices were trying to protect and bring into play the nation's tradition. I loved them and admired them.

We loved our experience at this concert. They explained the tradition, performed hauntingly beautiful songs, and even allowed you to try playing these ancient traditional instruments. Great arts to support while you're in town.

Really disappointed that only 4 people attended this outstanding performance. Class act! This group is inspirational, with only 15 members they are doing a fantsatic job at keeping this beautiful and rare musical knowledge alive.
