Situated in the centre of the UNESCO-declared World Heritage area, the Sung Sôt or Surprise Grotto is on Bo Hòn Island, and is one of the finest and widest grottoes of Ha Long Bay.Ascending to the grotto, the way is covered by trees and foliage, and consists of great paved stone blocks.Inside, it is partitioned into two chambers; the first one being similar to a wide theatre hall. Many stalactites hang from the high ceiling, with numerous possible forms and shapes.

Sung Sot Cave is widely known as Surprise Cave because of the response of explorers when they 1st visited it and also discovered a specific rock. To me the major' surprise' wasn't the rock formation, however the horrendous lighting, which completely undermined the magnificence of...More

There is a steep set of stairs to the cave but it is worth the climb. Cave is spectacular with lots of hidden little spaces. Beautifully lit up with colorful lights. This is a World Heritage site and the view over Halong Bay is breathtaking.

The cave was impressive. The shock was the 300 measures for getting as much as it. But what a view when you hit the top, looking back again across the bay. The ensuing surprise was how large and the number of more steps have been...More

Surely a highlight during our immediately Halong Bay cruise package... about 130 measures uphill before you're compensated with mother nature question. The moisture is high and the road could be slippery. So light wear and a pair of flippers are advised. For great photographs... do...More

The caves are beautiful, and did indeed surprise me by how huge it was and beautiful indeed. We were lucky to have visited when it wasn't very crowded. The cave is very well maintained, well lit and worth the visit. Highly recommend it.

I've wandered through the Sung Sot Cave often as well as it's never didn't impress, certainly among natures wonders which has been well lit to showcase its beauty. I've never found it was overcrowded and in case people want to rush through then just allow...More
