This place was awful! They hurt the elephants and use their pain as a way to guide them and make them do what they want. This is not a sanctuary, but a for profit monstrosity.

Elephants are chained and beaten to perform tricks, this is not a sanctuary but a circus, by going you are just promoting and encouraging cruelty to elephants

Did this experience as part of a holiday excursion off a cruise ship, thought it was going to be a bit Corney after the stage show, but very interactive had some photos done that weren’t over expensive. A worthwhile trip & experience 45mins from laem chanbang, port.
Elephant rides included, and pics of various animals don,t go if you are looking for an ethical trip.

The elephants are not happy it's clear they are showing signs of mental stress. The Mahouts are using weapons.

We got to this site an hour before closing. We took the 30 minute jungle elephant ride. Fed the elephant along the way. It's interesting, especially if you've never ridden an elephant. Would not be my top recommendation if you only have one day in Pattaya, but if you have time, yes this is a good stop on the tour.

Earlier, Elephant ride received bad review, but my recent visit, I experience lot of improvement. All the people shows Hospitality. They trained the elephant well, More than 10 people, involve in shotting video or taking photo for the entire elephant ride and keep the photo available for sale at the time of guest return back. But, few people only purchase their photos. Let the people start to purchase their photos atleast by showing appreciation of the employees.

I would like to ask why this is still being shown on TripAdvisor when it is widely accepted Riding elephants is cruel. The person who said it was great and the elephants are well looked after obviously didn’t notice the sharp hook in the mahouts hand - a clue. Google Breaking the Spirit to see what these lovely animals go through so you can sit on them. TripAdvisor disgusted with you!

Thanks for your answer. The Elephant Nature Park is a lovely sanctuary where you work alongside the Ellies and observe them but they are never ridden. They are almost all rescued from various places. The trouble is every elephant that gives rides or is in shows may not look badly treated to you but would have gone through Breaking the Spirit which is an horrendously cruel act. People are learning, Thai and tourists but it has a long way to go but unless this cruelty is pointed out no one will learn. I myself did not realise about this cruel act until visiting ENP which shows a film on this Breaking the Spirit to show the problems it causes then focuses on the lucky ones at the sanctuary and the inroads being made. It is run by an amazing Thai lady called Lek and is the way the tourism should be going.

is it a clean environment? I can't stand dirt or animal abuse

I did not see the dirt and the abuse some people have reported here. This whole operation is small and it looks more like a family's occupation rather than a large organization. When we were there, the elephants were congregating together in a wooded area and they did not look abused. I am no zoo keeper, but this organization looked good to me. I would never actively hurt one of these animals and I would not ride around on an animal that looked afraid or abused. Once again, I am not an expert.

Why is this place advertising as a sanctuary when they are clearly an animal entertainment venue? The definition of a sanctuary is a place of refuge or rest, a place where you can feel at peace and restful. I would like to ask how elephant riding, tug of war, basket ball, talent shows etc are peaceful and restful? Elephants are some of the world’s most awe-inspiring animals. They are also among the most abused when forced to entertain the public by “giving” rides and forced to do other unnatural and painful acts.
Travel companies around the world profit from some of the cruellest types of wildlife tourist attractions on earth. Whether it is riding elephants, taking selfies with tigers, or performing dolphin shows, these activities can cause lifelong suffering for wild animals.
Riding elephants.
In order to make elephants submit to elephant rides and other human interactions, they are taken from their mothers when babies and forced through a horrific training process known as ‘the crush’. It involves physical restraints, inflicting severe pain and withholding food and water. By the time tourist come to ride an elephant, it may look at peace, but this is because it’s spirit has been broken. The bullhook used permanently reminds the animal of human dominance.
The cruelty does not end after the crush. When not performing or used for rides most elephants are kept on chains, unable to socially interact with one another. This is hugely damaging to their physical and psychological wellbeing. Elephants are meant to roam with their families over vast distances, captive elephants are typically kept tightly chained and separated from their friends and loved ones.
Up to 550,000 wild animals are currently enduring lifetimes of suffering at tourist entertainment venues globally. Tourists should be given the opportunity to enjoy the animals in their natural habitats not only to prevent animal suffering but to protect wildlife. Animals are not entertainers.

I think you have answered your questions.
This is not a sanctuary. Just a money making racket for the greedy brutal local Thais.
Spread the word, which is: stay away.
