- MrKimPattaya, Thailand656 contributionsA live update from Jomtien BeachHere is some news from Jomtien. Firstly, the beaches remain closed, you cannot go on to the sand or swim and there is a large fine if you wish to ignore this ruling. All the sunbeds and umbrellas have been removed and the beach does look wonderful and natural! You can walk along the promenade where you will find many walkers and joggers in the morning and a lot more people strolling in the evening. You must wear a mask, again a large fine is you don’t, and you are not allowed to sit and socialise. Despite these limitations it is a unique time to be here. Restaurants have been allowed to open with many restrictions including temperature checks, hand sanitising and also distancing, so you may have to shout to your partner. The sale of alcohol is not allowed in the restaurants and all the bars remain closed. I believe that all the hotels remain closed so there is nowhere to stay. I am not trying to be dramatic just realistic in informing people what the exact situation is here in Jomtien. Stay safe!Visited May 2020Written 24 May 2020
- Paul GBang Lamung, Thailand86 contributionsIt could be so much betterThe problem with Jontiem Beach is the drug dealers, which discourages the families with young children using the play areas in the late afternoon when the sun is setting and it is getting cooler. The walk-ways are in serious need of repairs and talking a stroller along the beach walk-ways is a nightmare, so trying to use the beach for families is very difficult. Its ok for older children and grown ups but if you have young children, forget it, which is such a pity, as if some money was spent to make the area nicer, it would attract many more families to the beach and the children would love the beach. What a waste and such a pity that the Thai's don't see it.Visited December 2019Written 1 January 2020
- Tanja22 contributionsNice beachJomtien beach is nicer than the other side of pattaya beach. Lot cleaner. Chair will cost you 40-50 bath per person. Water is not deep so good for families with children. Toilets and bathrooms are quite dirty and not too often.Visited February 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 February 2020

I usually love SE Asia so my experience in Pattaya staying in Jomtien comes from an informed traveler who's been everywhere. My partner and I had been traveling around Europe for 3 months when we realized that we didn't have the right visa to stay -- so we booked a flight to Bangkok and an Airbnb in Jomtien without researching first. Ok - literally the prostitution capital of the WORLD. Look it up. Dirty, ugly, none of the beauty or exotic charm you'd find in Phuket or Chiang Mai, for example. All the nastiest elements of Bangkok with none of the benefits. If you like a sleazy resort vibe then this is place for you. I've never seen so many old white guys lurking around with very young prostitutes, both male and female. Overall, a depressing experience. Lousy restaurants which is shocking. Skip it.

So much rubbish floating in from the sea and the beach full of junk and cigarette butts. If you’re wanting to travel to a lovely beach, avoid this one and head toward Ko Larn.

Jomtien beach is being ruined by people drinking all night playing loud music leaving litter all over the beach and using the beach as a toilet someone must do something about this. I feel sorry for the decent hard working beach vendors.

Good quiet beach away from all the riff raff and trash of Pattaya. About 20 minutes by grab taxi from Pattaya. Lazy relaxed town.

Menu available or can just buy from passing vendors. Massage, manicure, pedicure available. Water could be more appealing though

Gorgeous, long sandy beach. Umbrellas and chairs set up everywhere. Easy to buy drinks and street food from vendors while relaxing on the beach.

So vibrant with so much going on. Street sellers with every type of food you could want. Regular fireworks on the beach. Beach is very clean. Toilets are local and more than acceptable.

Bring your family on Sunday and have a great beach sand picnic or Sunday lunch on this beach.
I could live on this very clean beach.
I was so happy I went to this beach a few times and had an enjoyable time.
There are many beautiful holiday people attending this beach and it is not so overcrowded like some beaches .

My fiancé and I planning to go to Jomtien beach. We’re staying at city center residence now. We wanted to know if we need to book the hotels there before we can swim or use the beach?? Or we can use the beach without booking any hotel there? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Seems the beach is pretty long, so I would expect some location along it are better than others, either for relaxing on the beach itself or for accomodation.
Any advice for the best location?
Thanks,
Didier

Hi.
Yes the beach is about 3 kilometres long.
There are resorts right along the beach but the area around Jomtien town has good accomodation options as well as restaurants, bars etc. Further along the beach the resorts seem to cater more for Russian guests. The beach is clean near Jomtien and is also patrolled by Thai police.

Hi
Thinking of staying in Jomtien area but very hesitant. Can someone give me some information please as to whether there are plenty of restaurants, shops and night life around that beach? I know Jomtien is quieter than Pattaya so not expecting crazy busy. But at the same time, I don’t want to stay in a dead place with nothing to do but stay in hotel. Appreciate your responses.

Hi, this is Jan!
I am in Jomtien since five years, staying always at the same hotel (about 80 nights a year: Poseidon - not the cheapest one but very good in my eyes; but there are cheaper options nearby) and never felt boring. I only go to Pattaya for shopping or playing badminton or so. Otherwise Pattaya is too touristic for me. Please make sure you stay close to Dongtan Beach - then you are more or less in the heart of Jomtien. The gay area here (if you looking for that) is even bigger and better than in Pattaya. Anyway: Do not expect lovely beaches here like in the Thailand-Brochures. The beaches are ok, but not like in some Thailand advertisements.
If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me here.
Best regards and have fun in the country of smile!
