We decided to spend a day exploring different swim-able areas of Koh Samui, however, we were unable to rent a bike from our hotel so decided to go up to Coral Cove by Tuk Tuk instead. We got dropped off at the top of the road and made our way down to the beach, which is quite grainy and gets very hot, so make sure you're wearing your sandals! The facilities around the main beach are very basic and we noticed that most of the people on the beach were either living nearby or had brought their own transport, smart choice! There is a small shack with tables outside in the shade where you can order drinks and a bite to eat but not much else. Considering this is touted as the best point for snorkeling in Koh Samui, there isn't anywhere you can actually rent snorkeling gear so make sure to bring your own (you can easily buy it in the market). We hadn't brought any so had to go without.
Up until this point in our trip, every body of water we had taken a dip in (Chaweng beach, the two swimming pools at our hotel) had been uncomfortably warm and did not serve as a respite from the sweltering heat; however the water at coral cove was blissfully cool and joyously calm and had us swimming and frolicking in no time.
The water is not crystal clear but we were able to spot quite a large number of fish even from the surface which made us regret not having snorkeling gear all the more. But we spent a good couple of hours here nonetheless and definitely recommend making the trek, but bringing your own transport is a must!
After our swim we hiked up to Dr. Frogs (about 10-15 mins walk mostly uphill) and enjoyed delicious thai and italian food with the best view in Koh Samui!

It's a very nice place compare to Koh Samui's other beaches, which are all crowded and dirty. Here you can climb the rocks, take sun on the rock, and swim in a quiet clean water with different fishes. Also in Silver Beach we could snorkel a bit, but more than these two, there is no other snorkeling place in the island. So if you like a lot snorkeling i advice to choose another island, not Koh Samui. For example Koh Tao or Koh Phangan. The snorkeling is amazing there.

Snorkling was pretty ok. Lots of fishes but water wasn't very clear. Easy to cut your feet on the coral.

Do not come here! :( There are no fishes and the dead coral is very hard and sharp. I came in August. I ended up with cuts all over my feet. And on top of that you have to go through a hotel to get there with many many steps down.

Dear guest
Please note that the conditions of the snorkeling may vary greatly as it is real nature but that's always true for underwater sports.
You said that there were no fishes while many people found different kind of fish. Please remember that all fish are natural, not a robot who is commanded by a remote control like TV.
So, they come and go as they want.
In general, people who wants to snorkel will wear flipper for stepping on the rock. It's quite strange that you forget. If you did not have any, please contact reception for flipper rental.
With kind regards.

We were last in Koh Samui some 18 yrs ago and I can tell you we experienced the most amazing snorkelling even directly off the top end of Chaweng Beach it was stunning bright yellow and orange coral reefs with fish amazing colours to match we have been told it's all long gone which is really sad! Even the fact it's almost difficult to find a beach entrance due to all the hotels it's not the paradise we remembered that's for sure.

I've been snorkeling here for six months now and it's definitely the best site on the island, but one shouldn't compare it with Koh Taen nor Koh Tao.
Do note that the conditions may vary greatly but that's always true for underwater sports.

Coral Cove is an excellent snorkeling place and the reefs are close to the beach. The coral reef is beautiful with many colors such as yellow, green, red, blue, purple, pink, orange, white etc. There are many very large coral structures. Hundreds of beautiful colorful fish swim around the corals. The swim to the reefs is short but the water gets deep very quickly. So it is important that either you should be a good swimmer or you should wear a life jacket or flotation device. Safety is important.

Had trouble finding the Bungalow entrance as recommended by other and used Coral Cove Resort driveway to the beach
Lots of fish immediately off the beach. Recommend reef shoes and own mask. Water clarity was not great but ok Great couple of hours around the cove. Best area for fish at Lamai end of beach around the large rocks.

Coarse sandy beach but idyllic and amazing to find coral and fish right there.
Kids loved the fish swimming around their feet and snorkelled for hours. Bring your own mask! Beach did get busy but not crowded. Nice bar/restaurant to keep you topped up.

Rented the gear and they looked after my bag at the hotel baggage area. Saw lots of colourful fish and interesting coral. The water was a little murky but not too bad. Found that standing still and putting the mask in the water allowed the smaller, shy fish to come closer.
