It's been really good going up there since they developed out the roads. No more bumpy dirt roads like previous reviews are mentioning. Still steep and narrow, but very easy on a motorbike to get through.

Very nice for a day trip of just relaxing or getting some work done at the coffee shops.

The trip going there was 400 baht per person from doi suthep going back and forth.
The ride was a little bumpy for the last 2 or 3 kilometers and a bit dusty. The road is very small especially the last bit, but the song thaeo driver did a good job.

The park was very beautiful during my visit on January 5th with the trees being in full bloom.

Nice place for pictures and to have a moment in peace and silence away from the city when you walk for a bit.

Food and drinks are sold by the hilltribe. You can eat some very sweet strawberries and drink a cup of coffee that grows here.

It's a nice park complemented by the cherry blossoms.

How we got there:
At the Chang Phueak Gate Night Market (search Google maps for this) there are red truck "taxis" near the 7-11 store charging 60THB/person to go to Doi Suthep, and the same to go back down. You don't have to use the same red truck going down as you did going up (if you ask to go all the way to Khun Chang Khien, they'll want 400THB/person to go up, and the same to go back down. We didn't do this because it's more costly). You'll need to wait about 30 minutes until there are 12 people ready to go up before the red truck will leave. It'll take you up to Doi Suthep. You can visit Doi Suthep for awhile if you like. Then take another red truck up to Khun Chang Khian where the blossoms are. The cost is listed on a sign at 200THB/person, one way. We negotiated it to 150THB, and didn't need to wait for the truck to be fill up (we were a party of 3). The driver took us up, we enjoyed the park (no fixed time restrictions), then took us back down to Doi Suthep. We paid another red truck 60THB/person to go back down to Chang Phueak Gate Night Market.

Hiking to Chang Khian is a must if you are a hiker & visiting North Thailand. pop in to Chong Wa coffee shop which is the local store with great views of the Valley. Happy coffee on the other side of the road about 150 metre is also unique. The weather is varied as you are high in the mountain s. A worth while add on if you are taken a songtow or personal drive to Doi Suthep the Palace & Doi Pui Village which are all lovely but this area is slightly off the tourist destination for the time being.

After going through a narrow sloped, there is a cherry blossoming hill. The early February is the most beautiful time to sightseeing. The weather is quite hot. A large view has specific pink color of cherry blossom.

We hired a taxi for one day from Chiang Mai to Khun Chang Kian, Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens and Mon Jaem. The journey to Khun Chang Kian was bumpy and winding, but the weather had been fine, so it was not slippery or dangerous. The air was fresh and we asked our driver to wind down the windows and switch off the air-conditioner. It was 7th January and the leaves had all fallen from the sakura trees in Khun Chang Kian. But the flowers were not blooming yet because the weather was warmer than usual.
However, the poinsettia plants were still bright red and lent colour to the village. Best of all, it was the Hmong New Year, which lasts for 3 days, and the girls were out in their colourful and traditional best. Their attire were so intricate and absolutely beautiful! Seeing them more than made up for missing out on the sakura flowers. Some boys were playing with tops. The children were on holiday from school because of the New Year. We bought some snacks for all the children from the little shop with the "Coffee" sign.
We were there on a Monday and the village was quiet and nice with no other tourists and not many vehicles on the road. (When we arrived at Mon Jaem later, a couple of sakura trees were blooming, and some were in bud, so we were still very happy after all :D)

Difficult to access, road condition was poor, only single lane and some parts are muddy. We drove a new 1600 cc car, it still need a good old experience hand to reach the village in a safe and sound condition, both car and all passenger. It took us 2 hours forth and back from the Bhuping palace, even there was no traffic at all on that day. We heard that on the peak season sometimes it took 5-6 hours because of the bad traffic. We expected to see the cherry blossom bloom but still only 1 tree that bloom. Yes only 1 tree next to the coffee booth in the coffee research station. The weather there was really nice. There are 200 houses in the village.

This mountain top location is treacherous to get to with exceedingly narrow roads and steep drops down the mountainsides. The Cherry blossoms which occur in January and February are AMAZING. Originally a gift from the chinese they were abandoned during the war and literally propagated all the way down the mountainside. Go during the week if you are here for the cherry blossoms. The weekends are crazy.
