Staying in Chiang Mai, a stop a bit out of the way. Beautiful crafts and the paper is gorgeous!! Covid has obviously impacted the shops but they are hanging in there! Loved to see artists actively painting giant umbrellas. Great coffee shop next door to cool down from the heat..

We took our 9 and 12 year old here and they had an amazing time making and painting their own umbrella (350THB). The artists were welcoming, knowledgeable and super talented. Shop has loads of awesome crafts. Perfect for a quick visit or to spend a few hours hands on.

Chiang Mai is well known for its umbrellas so do visit here to see the local traditions. You can see the umbrellas being made from the very beginning to when they are painted at the end. They also hand decorate mobile phone covers, fans, bags etc.
There is a lovely shop that is very reasonably priced where you can buy umbrellas, hand made paper etc. I bought my 4-year old Granddaughter an umbrella and a smaller one for her doll - she loved them.

This is one of the few places we could find here which actually show the process of the traditional handicrafts in the area. We were given a little workshop with our young kids to make and decorate paper. It was really fun and peaceful. They even returned the paper after it dried as we couldn’t stay for long enough. Worth a trip.

We went here as part of a handicraft tour and were quite enchanted with this factory. The umbrellas and fans are made by hand and the staff describes the process and the different types of materials used. We purchased about 4 fans and will enjoy them as decorations for years to come. This is one of the tour locations not to miss.

If you are in this area, don’t miss a stop here! They will hand paint anything you bring with you so you may want to bring a shirt or shorts or both! They hand painted our shorts while we were wearing them. We have washed over a dozen times and the paint is still there! We also had a hand fan painted with our family name spelled in Thai as well a our cell phone covers painted on the backs! Fabulous place with great customer service!
