- BelleBucheon, South Korea891 contributionsTry the food! They close off one main street and 2-3 others that connects to it for local vendors to sell goods. It was pretty interesting to check out the food - there's mini coconut ice cream, padthai in different shapes and form, food truck with Thai food and Korean chicken to tokoyaki and pizza to coffee, fresh tropical fruits, souvenirs, pants and local crafts. My favorite was my very sweet mango shake in a tall cup for only 45baht. We also got a cowhide leather keyholder from a stall for 65baht with personalized engraving. As most night/street markets, the set up is typical and the same. This Sunday market was organized, food carts looked clean and hygienic. Visit if youre in Chiang Rain on a Sunday.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 February 2024
- Alie BLeeuwarden, The Netherlands16 contributionsWonderful stay, beautiful city!Such a different world and such sweet, friendly people. We rented bicycles and cycled through the entire city. It is easy to do if you anticipate well by holding out your hand and sorting, the motorists take this into account better than in our country. We climbed the mountain with a truck taxi and bicycles and rolled back with the bicycle, beautiful! There is a beautiful temple above that is worth a visit. We cycled outside the city via a beautiful cycle path around a beautiful lake! You can eat delicious food everywhere for a little money, it's all cheap by our standards. The night market is also very nice and cozy, you have to be careful not to get too greedy and buy too much! Because there are all kinds of nice souvenirs. In short, only in Chiang Mai can you spend a week or more, there is so much beauty to see. We slept in Suger Cane hotel and Star hotel.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 February 2024
- Nene JPerth, Australia140 contributionsSaturday Street MarketRoads are closed off and an assortment of market stalls offer freshly made food options...sweet, fried, cooked versions of everything imaginable. The food is cheap ranging from 10bht for a cake and juice.. There are clothing and stalls selling clothes and bric-a-brac with lots of people wandering and looking around. The markets start from 3pm but go quite late into the evening.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 March 2024

Opens at 5:00. That's enough for a good two hours. Must seeVisited December 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 December 2024

The Saturday Walking Street began at the Chiang Mai Gate of the Old City and extended along Wualai Road. Some of the souvenir stalls sold more unique goods not easily found in the night market, and the food centres also sold some novelty food items such as rolled okonomiyaki. Overall, it was a vibrant bustling walking street which was a nice change from the slightly repetitive stalls in the night market, but I would not consider it a must do. As the sun set, it also got increasingly crowded to the point of being unpleasant.

Every Saturday, there is a lively and fun night market 1 km down the road. It is known Saturday Night Market or Wualai Walking Street. It starts in the late afternoon and continues until around 10.30 PM. Chiang Mai is famous for its multiple night markets and you must visit this one on a Saturday. In the Saturday Night Market, you will find handicrafts, bags, clothing, shoes, belts, lanterns, perfume, street performers, wood carvings and woodwork, silverwares, aluminium scupltures, sketch artists, ornaments, candles, housewares, and food stalls.

⭐️Comments:
Literally the best night market we ever visited. The choices are endless, and it's a big market. It's a must-visit in Chiang Mai.
During the daytime, Chiang Mai is very quiet, we thought, but as the sun goes down, the city transforms into a bustling night market. The attractions are on point.
⭐️What to Expect:
Here, you can find many stalls offering a variety of foods, drinks, and desserts. There are also souvenirs, clothes, gifts, and even cute pet clothes. Creative individuals like painters also come to the night market to showcase their art.
⭐️Tips:
▪️ Be prepared by wearing comfortable shoes and outfits, and carry an easy-to-carry bag because the market is so big; you'll do a lot of walking, and it gets quite crowded, so it's better to be safe.
▪️ Bring cash, as all transactions are done in cash. When buying something, make sure to bargain because there is no fixed price except for food and drinks.
▪️ Don't eat your dinner before coming here, as there are lots of street food options that you can't resist trying. Do try to refresh with coconut smoothie, it taste sooo gewd.
▪️ Souvenirs here are the cheapest, so it's better to buy your souvenir gifts from Thailand here, as you can bargain for the best price.
▪️ Night market is all available all the day, however better to come on Saturday as it was more lively.

Absolutely the best and largest market we have ever been to! There were a dozen or more food stalls with everything from quail eggs to grilled fish, bbq to sweets, sushi to crickets and beetles. There are a ton of food stalls also at the beginning before you even get to the street and many more as you stroll down the never ending streets. There are handmade and mass produced items like scarves, paintings, spices, bags and little wooden elephants like all the markets but this one had so much more and done better quality as well. Opening at 4pm, it gets a lot busier around 7pm but we liked the energy. The streets are much busier at the beginning and really thin out after walking 20-30min down the street. Total, you could spend several hours trying the food and shopping. We even missed a few streets.
I highly recommend planning a trip to be in Chiang Mai for this market!! It was awesome!

A thing to do on a Saturday night. Go buy some tourist stuff, eat some great food, see what's going on. It's worth it. But later on it does get busy, I think it took us about 3+ hours to walk it up and back including a 30 minute foot massage. It's colourful but gets awful packed later on in the evening.

Surprising at the time of writing that this market was actually more impressive than the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai, mostly due to the impacts of Covid unfortunately. But, this one street market has held up particularly well along with the sunday night market. Plenty o eat and browse along with good bargains to hunt and the odd bit of live music here and there.

A great long market. Get there early! We arrived at about 4:30. Even though some of the vendors were still setting up there was certainly enough food and stalls to keep our interest. By the time we got to the end and turned to come back the crowds started. Towards the end the four of us literally needed to form a human train and plough through the crowd to get out.

This is a fantastic night market with a wide array of stall selling lots of souvenirs and food.
I like how you can veer of the Main Street into a temple and check out the food stalls for something tasty to eat. Most of the stalls are reasonably priced and the stall holders will be happy to barter on prices.
My tip would be not to hold off on buying things you like here with the expectation of finding it cheaper elsewhere in particular the islands.
I’ve found since leaving Chang Mai markets in Koh samui are way more expensive for the same products with an unwillingness to barter on price so be warned.
Also look out for a stall selling sugarcane juice. I only found one. It’s not as easy to find in Thailand as it is in Vietnam but if you’ve never had it before it’s worth a try. It’s so refreshing and sweet tasting. Look for a stall with a roller and flattened sugar canes that have been pressed. It’s delicious!

Visited both Saturday and Sunday walking streets but spent longer in the Saturday walking street as it was more convenient for me.
Some vendors were indeed the same folks but I suppose it just makes sense that one spends the week making items which one sells on the weekend.
Large number of stalls, quite a number sold similar items but a fair number of handmade items too. Good selection of food stalls with all manner of local foods and gorgeous fruit - great place to sample anything that catches your fancy.
Some street performances.
Go early (or late) to beat the crowds.

How far is Saturday night market location to Sunday night market location?
Written 21 December 2019
Depending which part of the walking street you start at, it is about 10 - 15 min walk apart (1 km or so). There were similar vendors at both markets but not exactly the same when I visited both.

Are Saturday and Sunday night market both wheelchair friendly?

Written 7 September 2016
There are hotels all over this fairly small city, so it won't be a problem. Also transportation is easy and inexpensive. Choose an area and choose a price range and you'll be fine.

Gaan de zaterdag en zondag markt door op 31/12/16 en 1/1/17? Dit omdat ik dan in Chiang Mai ben en het tof zou vinden om deze 2 te bezoeken.
Thx!
