My wife and I had a brilliant experience at this cooking class. We made some of the best food we ate in our entire trip to Thailand! The couple that ran the class were very helpful and attentive and explained the basics behind the flavours of Thai cooking very well.

Don’t make the mistake we did of eating breakfast before you go. You make a lot of delicious food.

My boyfriend and I went to the May Kaidee cooking school in Chiang Mai. We'd eaten at the restaurant in Bankok and thought it was great, so were very exceited to learn some of the tricks of the trade.

We had a great afternoon at the cooking school. Our instructor was lovely, really knowledeable and friendly. We learnt how to make Tom Yum paste and then proceeded to make loads of delicious meals - tom yam soup, tom kah soup, green curry, red curry, mussaman curry, satay sauce (the most addictive stuff in the world ever), pumpkin hummus, mango sticky rice - it was all amazing. I woudl echo a previous reviewers comments of not eating beforehand though, we felt very guilty not being able to finish everything!

I think the best compliment we can pay is to say we've been cooking Thai food at home (using the recipe book given in the class) on a really regular basis. Once you know how to make the paste (an the instructor usefully tells you to freeze it in ice cube trays once you're home so it keeps for ages!) then its all really quick and incredibly tasty. Probably the best money we've ever spent as I think we'll be making the recipes for ever more. Can't reccommend enough!

My girlfriend and me took this cooking school because our touristguide book did a good review about it. We took the morning course. We went by tuktuk to the location which we where told by email from may kaidee it was not that far (about 2km) only to see that we have to go by car (with a staff from may kaidee) back 100m nearby our hostel!! :-\

Pros:
- Interesting course

- REALLY interesting shopping tour at the morning market

- Duan (the teacher) is a REALLY nice and funny person

- small class (only 4 students)

- small gift at the end of the course

- you may ask her everything and she will answer you question competently

CONS:
- LOOOOOOOTS to quick and stressfull

- only 2 cooking stations for 4 persons

- the kitchen didnt have a fan so it got reeeally smoky

- because of the quick quick quick not very detailed

- after every dish you have to make notes in your "cookbook" (only some copies of A4 sheets)

- i think a little bit to expensive for what u get (1200 baht ~30€)

- nearly no time to enjoy eating what you cooked before

We pre-booked a class from 9:00-1:00 days earlier and after having paid and received emails with details on where and when to be there, we showed up to find out that they were not open, we travelled 20 minutes to get there and were quite excited for it. After trying to get in contact we finally managed to get a hold of someone only to be told they were on holiday and we will get a refund with hardly an explanation or apology. It all could have been handled so much better

We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience. In the days leading up to your booking date, we tried to call you several times on the phone number you entered when making the booking to let you know that the school would be closed for a few days and to find out whether you could change the date of your class, but you never answered the phone. We also sent you an email two days before the date of your class relaying the same message, that our school would be closed and asking if you could change the date of your class. Please check your junk mail folder as we suspect our message was sent there. If a date change for the class is not possible, we will of course provide you with a refund. Our staff were not on holiday, they had to leave for a family emergency. The person you spoke to was not one of our English speaking staff and therefore not able to explain the situation properly. "Holiday" is a general term the staff used to mean "out of town" or "away". That's also why a detailed explanation or apology was not provided. We would definitely like to provide you with an explanation, apology, and also find out if we can reschedule your class in Chiang Mai or at our Bangkok location, or provide you with a refund. Please send us an email to veginfo@maykaidee.com and our English speaking staff will reply right away. And if you can include a phone number where you can be reached, we can also call you. Again, we are very sorry for the inconvenience.

By far the best food I had in Thailand and the fact that we cooked it was amazing. I now have the tools to make my favorite dishes. This class was perfect and the instructor was amazing.

We had a great time at the cooking school. We learned a lot, nothing too difficult that we can't try again at home. We came hungry and left stuffed!

We had a great four-hour cooking class this morning and would highly recommend it. We learned to make several types of chili paste, tom yum soup, green curry, papaya salad, massaman curry, pad thai, peanut sauce, and mango with sticky rice. We left with a booklet of recipes and several containers of food—it was a really fun way to spend our last morning in Chiang Mai.

I enjoyed this cooking school so much and it was one of my highlights of Chiang Mai. Our group was 2 veggies and 1 vegan, and every dish was delicious. We did the full day cooking class and we definitely got our money’s worth, arrive with an empty stomach as we left so full we could barely move! The dishes are amazing and we learnt so much, our teacher was so lovely and patient, everything is provided and presented so nicely. Any food you don’t eat you can take home which we did, and you also get a recipe book to take home.
The whole experience was really personalised and a great morning. We made 10 dishes and it didn’t feel rushed, super easy to learn and can’t wait to show everyone back home how it was! The peanut sauce is to die for, I would DEFINITELY recommend this!!

After a delicious meal at May Kaidee's I had to sign up for their cooking class.

The cooking school offers accelerated 2 hour courses (where you learn 5 dishes) and 4 hour courses (where you learn 10 dishes), offered in morning and afternoon. I signed up for the full afternoon cooking class (2-6pm). I was later joined by 2 classmates who signed up for the accelerated class. I was lucky to get a lot of personal attention from Nim!

Nim is a patient, warm teacher and I learned just as much from the way she handled, tasted and described the food, as from the recipes themselves. I feel I walked away with knowledge of the basics of Thai cooking.

I understand the 5 basic tastes, and the basic ingredients used for vegetarian chili pastes and standard Thai dishes (i.e. green curry, papaya salad, Tom Yam, pad Thai, mango sticky rice, spring roll with peanut sauce). Each student also gets a small book containing recipes for 10 dishes. You can also choose to purchase May Kaidee's full recipe book for 500 baht.

A couple notes:

Come with an empty stomach! You will cook and eat a lot of food! Takeaway containers are provided if you need them.

A few reviews have mentioned it gets hot in the classroom. Even though there is no air conditioning, I felt perfectly comfortable (in July). They also provide you with as much cold water as you need.

I am a novice cook (at best!) but it was still easy to follow along.

I look forward to making some vegetarian meals for friends back home!

We learned how to make chili paste, soups, Pad Thai, curries, peanut sauce and mango sticky rice. The instructor was friendly and helped everyone taste and adjust their dishes. We left very full and satisfied.

We did think that 4 hours is maybe a bit too long and by the end we’re hot, full and ready for a nap.

If you take this class, don’t forget to pace yourself!!!
