    Stunning hilltop temple with great views of the city
    Stunning golden hill top temple in Chiang Mai. Located about a 40 minute drive from the old town. Well worth the trek up the numerous steps to the top. The views of the city from the top are incredible.

    Hidden Gem of Chiangmai
    This temple is located 15 km from Chiangmai city center. It can be reached by car or motorbike. It has breathtaking view as it is located in the hill. The interesting things are the golden pagoda and the buddha image (Luang Phor Tun Jai). Furthermore, visitor can see the buddha in three postures (standing, reclining and sitting).

Up the Hills for a Blessing

This is Wat Phra That Doi Kham, you gotta walk 3 rounds under the elephant. There are plenty of them temples in Chiang Mai. They come in all sizes and grandeur. Some of them can be really packed with tourist, and some deep in the mountains are so remote it’s only known to folks in the area. Here’s one just south west of Chiang Mai, growing in popularity and as majestic as the other really famous ones.
It’s easy to get to, its not chaotic (while I was there). The place is well kept and tidy and clean. Plenty parking but does require a short walk unless your driver makes a drop off for you. And for the sporty, you can opt to conquer a very long flight of stairs from the bottom of the hill. The link is a video to show the temple grounds.

This Temple is reached by climbing a long flight of steps but you can take your time and it's quite nice to look back occasionally. I can't remember how much to get in to the site but it wasn't more than a few £ each. Great views of the surrounding areas from the top, has a nice feel to it, lots of Buddha's on this site. Would recommend, allow yourself maybe 1.5/2 hours. We got a private taxi for the day but you can get a local shared taxi from Chiang Mai very cheaply.

Hard pass on this lucky number temple

This temple doesn't have much to recommend it, unless you believe that praying and donating will get you a lucky number. If so, this temple is well provisioned. There are more lottery vendors here than even Doi Suthep, which is saying a lot. And the presentation of it all is so crass. I couldn't get out of here fast enough.

beautiful temple on the top of the mountain
we took a private tour at sunrise - so beautiful to see when it was quiet and not crowded. we heard monks chanting and gave alms. really special experience

The tour on the van was a horror. The driver was the most unfriendliness person in Thailand. First they take you to a village where they wait with you until you buy things and then they get a kick back. I watched the driver get cash. The village was nothing but a tourist trap. The temple was not worth the price and we only had 45 minutes there and then we waited 30 for the van to get us. This tour was from Click2 Go I don’t recommend them I booked another tour and they never showed up!

Literally meaning "Temple of the Golden Mountain", it is perched on the hill of Doi Kham, surrounded by beautiful mountain landscapes. This ancient temple has more than 1,300 years of history, believed to have been built around 687 to house the relics of the Buddha. It is located on top of a forested hill just outside the city of Chiang Mai. It is known for its 17 meter high Buddha image. The oldest structure of the temple is the chedi (pagoda), built in the year 687. Huge golden colored Naga serpents guard the stairs on both sides of the pagoda which is enclosed by a gate. The chedi houses a sacred relic of the Buddha. The temple courtyard containing the chedi and viharn is partly enclosed by a gallery flanked by square green pillars decorated with golden floral motifs. The gallery contains numerous images of seated Buddha in various sitting postures on white pedestals surrounded by smaller Buddha images. A number of prayer boxes are placed within the gallery. The courtyard contains a large number of very large bells and gongs for visitors to hit. The viharn contains beautifully carved window panels, its roof is decorated with Naga barge boards. A little away from the chedi and viharn is the most noticeable feature of the Wat Phra That Doi Kham temple, a huge image of the seated Buddha. The 17 meter high image on the top of the hill dominates the area and is visible from kilometers away. The image sits on a white pedestal with a series of smaller Buddha images in front of it. Large warrior figures on either side of the stairs protect the image. The Lanna-style ubosot or ordination hall next to the image is a highly decorated structure with a tiered roof and Naga barge boards. On both sides of the stairs are large, golden-colored Naga serpents. The facade of the ubosot is particularly beautiful. Above the front door is a golden peacock motif on a very vibrant green background, above which is a beautiful wall painting.

Another Beautiful Temple

This is an area of much activity surrounding the hype and excitement of this amazing temple. It's beautiful and has so much to see - a very large and significant temple. Even though it was crowded we still enjoyed our visit. Lots of vendors abound so one can purchase items inside the temple walls as well as at the bottom of the long, long staircase.

The usual dress code for sacred temples is expected, be sure to dress appropriately and be prepared to remove your shoes. Wondering the grounds for an hour and a half was more than enough time to see everything

Very impressive temple

Also known as The Golden Temple, set high up on a hill outside the city.
Very impressive once you get inside and see all the various smaller temples and displays. Its famous among Thai people to make offerings of 100 flowers which is suppose to bring you good luck. Also you can get great views towards the city of Chiang Mai and the airport. Well worth a visit.

Go for sunrise

Super beautiful and peaceful place to enjoy the sunrise. Get really crowded into the day as more and more tourists come to visit the temple.
The statues and architectures are stunning.
Worth your visit while you are in Chiang Mai.
