This gate is located on the west side of the old town of Chiang Mai. It is quieter than the lively Tha Pae Gate on the east side, but the area around the gate is well maintained and the atmosphere is not bad. I personally think it was better than Chang Puak Gate on the north side, which I visited just before.

This is one of the four gates of city walls of Chiang Mai Old City. This one faces westwards. It is named after a temple near it called Wat Suan Dok. Suan Dok means “flower garden” in Thai language. The gate is built out of red bricks. It was built in the 13th century. There is a moat outside.

This is one of the four gates of the historical old town. It is also known as the Western gate. We passed by it frequently but nothing very interesting.

This is one of four gates which give entrance to the Old City; Tha Phae Gate being the main tourist attraction along with Suan Pung Gate and Pratu Gate.

Being part of the old city wall, the building is practically intact. Which is great if you want to have a good look at a piece of the cities ancient history.

If you’re walking round, stop and have a look but don’t make a special trip to come and see it.
