Neighbourhood: Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.

Local Chinese come to the shrine on public holidays to offer their blessings. Kuan Yim is the Goddess of Mercy and is carved from a 900 year old piece of teak. It is part of the Thian Fa Foundation and the poor can get free traditional medicine here. It is quite an impressive place and worth a visit if you are in the area.

This Chinese shrine is located right next to the Golden Buddha temple (on the other side of the road). The temple is in normal religious practice and provides an excellent example of a genuine Chinese temple. If you travel to the Golden Buddha, make a 30-minute detour - it is worth it.

Kuan Yim Shrine is a very important temple in Bangkok's Chinatown, although it is not listed in many guidebooks. A characteristic feature is the over 900-year-old statue of the goddess of mercy standing on the altar inside the temple. The statue is made of teak wood and painted gold. Thousands of people visit the sanctuary to pray, especially during the holiday season. The venue is part of the Thien Fah Foundation, the oldest charity group in Bangkok. The buildings surrounding the temple are hospital facilities, as the organization provides free medical care to the poor and homeless. Kuan Yim Shrine is very close to Wat Traimit at 606 Yaowarat Street. Interesting place and definitely worth a visit.

The 800+ years old wooden Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva statue is very beautiful. For non Buddhist, do stop by if you come to China town. For ardent devotees of Guan Yin or Kannon, this is one of the most revered statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in Thailand.

Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. We did a half day tour of Chinatown. What I loved was the atmosphere with locals doing various rituals which was interesting to observe. There was also some famous Thai celebrity there but not sure who it was! Not huge so you don't need long. Don't make a special trip but worth a stop if you are in Chinatown.

I liked entrance door and small details about the place, such as fortune telling sticks, or praying place where you put incense sticks to sand bowl.

After visiting the Golden Buddha, we went to this Chinese temple which is a few steps away.
It is very quiet and peaceful. The place is not crowded as this is as a place of worship.
You have to remove your shoes to get inside and you can take photos as well. Please donate to the people selling flowers as this money goes to charity or their foundation.
This place is worth visiting.
