I went to buy plants only... the variety was good and rates were reasonable... ended up buying few caladiums and euphorbia... seeds, fertilizers, pots and compost all gardening basic things are available...

Personally, I think of this as two venues.
1. The Thewes plant and flower market. This runs along one side of the soi between Thewes Pier (#15) for the Chao Phraya Express boat. This longstanding market is a great place to pick up a plant or three, to help decorate your home. Plants, or arrangements (to sit on a surface, or as hanging baskets), are available. This is, of course, best if you're staying in Bangkok, at least for awhile.
2. The sellers within the Thewes Pier area itself. These folks sell stuff like eels and turtles (to buy and release at the pier to make merit), and fish food. The latter is to feed the fish that swarm the pier - and is also to make merit.
Although ripoffs abound in such markets - and around some temples, I have not seen such things around this market. No double pricing that I have seen. In short - a market aimed mainly at locals, where they would also be happy to sell reasonably to you.

I was on the boat ride when we pulled into here. Looked very interesting so I hopped off to see. Lots of food stalls, sandals, clothing and my best buy was 20 pieces of fried banana for the princely sum of 20 baht. It was very tasty and filling and hours later was still good cold.

I was looking for the plant market that I visited in 2008 and it is gone. I asked around and nobody seem to know if it was relocated somewhere else or just closed down. Very disappointing

Found this market which is on one side of a canal on the way to Thewes Pier. On the other side of the canal is a plant nursery. Plenty of fresh food ( seafood, pork, chicken, vegetables) plus goods , cooking utensils, herbs spices etc. The plants on the otherside are diverse and are flowering as well as fruit. Very nice little market.

I was there before they undergo major changes last year. The nursery was out on the side of the road leading to Thewes Pier before it was moved across the canal.
The markets sells all sort of live seafood and the place can get all muck & wet & smelly, do not wear sandals to be here.
I was actually going to take the river cruise to Ta Prachan a few boat stations stops away, seems like every boat station there is a vendor selling dated bread (should I call this?) for anyone to feed the river cat fish, it is fascinating to do this, as there are thousands upon thousands of fishes in the river waiting to be fed.

Thewet market can be reached by using the Chao Phraya express boats ( orange flag) and stopping at Thewes Pier ( N15) , You will find an interesting local market with lots of fresh swimming fish ( catfish/eels/snakehead ) + life frogs for sale. Just next to it is a plant market selling an assortment of flora . Definitely worth a visit to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. There is also stale bread/scraps for sale to feed the multitude of catfish below the pier.

so you've been to Bangkok Thewet Market including the plants section. in August 2019. I went there over a year ago but it disappeared and nobody knew where they moved. On reading tripadvisor I noted you went in August this year. Has it really reopened in recent months ? I like to go there again. Please confirm.
