Last year, I visited Khlong Bang Luang with my friends. It was an easy trip and filled with good memories for all of us. It was quite convenient to travel, so we hopped on the MRT to Bang Phai station. However, since the Artist House is located in the middle of the village, we walked around 10 minutes more to get there. This part can be confusing for a first-time visitor. If you don’t feel like walking, the other way is by motorcycle taxi at the entrance to the side street. And if I remember correctly, it would cost around 15 baht. (I recommend this way better if you are a newcomer.)

When we arrived, it was a little bit smaller than we expected. There were several shops open for tourists, but not all of them were on weekdays. We were there early that morning. So we had no problem with overcrowding, unlike on weekends. There are several activities for us to do. For example, feeding the fish, painting on a canvas, learning how to make gel candles, and various handcrafts. If you are interested in artistry, you can buy many beautiful souvenirs from this place. We decided to spend our morning and afternoon painting some pictures and beading bracelets at the artist house while admiring the view of the canal with the long-tail boats passing by.

Overall, the experience at this place was pleasant nonetheless. If you are looking for some artistic gifts alongside a peaceful canal, then Khlong Bang Luang Artist House might be a great choice for you!

The place is at a small floating market, it’s quiet without much traffic.
A charming and quiet little wooden hut where you can spend time doing arts and craft, reading or just chilling over iced sugarcane matcha with nice jazz music in the background.

A nice surprise on a disappointing long boat tour. This place is an oasis and has a lovely little cafe and place to create your own art and admire others

This is a quiet community with nice weather. There is a boat ride to see the community. And there are many activities to do, including coloring, stringing beads, and many delicious restaurants.

We had high expectations reading how popular the place was. In reality, nobody cared about customer service there, there was nothing much for sale, we were also told the puppet show no longer takes place here. It was totally ordinary and not worth the travel time. Sorry.

I have an interesting tourist attraction located on the Thonburi side of Bangkok to recommend you all! This place is called Klong bang Luang. The word “Klong” is a canal, and Bang Luang is the name of the canal. Klong Bang Luang is a tourist attraction that suitable for people who want to relax or want to get away from it all. When I want to find someplace to unwind, I don’t have to go too far because Klong Bang Luang is about only 1 kilometer from my home. Started from Charan Sanit Wong 3, and then take a pick-up truck to the terminal bus stop, you will see the bridge. Before you are walking across the bridge, you will see a mini waterside restaurant. This restaurant not only has savory food such as Chinese roll noodle soup as Thai people known that Kuay-Jub, but it also has Thai dessert such as Mango sticky rice with coconut milk, Sweet Sticky Rice with Thai Custard, etc. which are very delicious. I suggest you to try at once if you come here. After visiting a mini restaurant, you have to walk across the bridge and then turn left and walk along the way, you will find some creative place that called Klong Bang Luang Artist House. Inside the place is including many beautiful artistic works, such as paints, statues, crafts, masks, etc. to persuade tourists to visit. In addition, there are Thai traditional puppet show for free at 2 p.m., and in the corner, there is a mini café which sells some beverages, appetizers, and some souvenirs. At the outside of the place, people can buy a bag of fish food and sit with their legs dangling off the edge and feed the fish while looking long-tailed boat sailing. I think that would make you happy and feel better!! If you guys don’t know where to go, I hope Klong Bang Luang will be your first choice.

Set in a 200 hundred-year-old rickety old house you will find a charming meeting house and gallery for art, crafts and performance which is a joy to explore.

There are many reasons why I urge you to include this haven of tranquillity in any upcoming Bangkok weekend wander:

You don’t need to take an organised tour – this is perfect for those who like to explore and wander as FIT visitors (free independent travellers)

You will find a simple riverside community area that is welcoming and unspoilt.
The wider neighbourhood remains largely unchanged with a temple, small market, shops. Enjoy Thai style lunch with the locals overlooking the canal.

It offers an authentic Thai cultural experience that is not a naff tourist show.
This traditional puppet show on offer at weekends is spell-binding

However you arrive – boat – taxi – walking – motorbike – BTS – it will feel like an adventure!

Free (although tipping for the puppet show is appreciated)

This was our second time at Khlong Bang Luang Artist House. The first time 2 years ago we missed the puppet show. This time we were in luck. The puppets came to life through the skill of the puppeteers, all masked and dressed in black. After the performance the puppets engaged with their audience. Our granddaughter and other children were engaged by the puppets for hugs and fun. Such a special experience in Bangkok..
The Artist's house is wonderful to visit, a cool spot on the klong. It's delightful to see the timber houses on stilts and the passing boat traffic and watch it all from the verandah of the coffee shop. I have no hesitation in recommending this as part of a visit to Bangkok, a must see.
