To go on this island a Friday or Saturday is highly recommended! You get out of Bangkoks craziness and walk around in a small beautiful island. Enjoy the food, quiet atmosphere, small shops and in the evening the great beers at thailands first craft brewery. This island is highly underrated (comes from can expat)

I’ve been to this place several times. I allways enjoy it. Some places in this island kind of remind me of the Japanese movie “Spirited Away”

Good day out with a group of colleagues to Koh Kred. While the market on the island is busy, it’s mainly locals, so feels like a more authentic “Thai” experience. Plenty of handicrafts to choose from as gifts. Also an excellent coffee shop by one of the ferries over (in an old wooden rice mill).

Whilst Koh Kred is of interest in itself with plenty of handicrafts, farming areas, wats and friendly people to explore via elevated concrete walkways (particularly on weekends, quiet and peaceful during the week), part of the fun is actually getting there.
We caught the Metro to Sanam Chai, the Orange river express boat to Nonthaburi, looked for but could not find the scheduled longboat service (private tours easily arranged at exorbitant prices though) and taxi to the ferry crossing in downtown Pak Kret.
Found out later ( and returned this way) by another ferry crossing at the downstream end of the man made canal that avoids the crowded parts of Pak Kret.
Ferry was B2 each way and became a little crowded as a school excursion group arrived shortly after us.
We chose to wander the elevated walkway to the southern side of the island where a small restaurant with simple Thai fare overlooks the main river, where we had lunch. The owner here is an engaging fellow who looked after us well, who also has sufficient command of English to get by.
Fascinating place _ a pleasure to walk around traffic free, and the people all so friendly.
On transfer back to the “mainland” we took a taxi to the Metro station at Nonthaburi Civic centre and headed back to Sukhumvit. Lots of fun.

Koh Kret is located in Nonthaburi province, adjacent to the Chao Phraya River. Is a Mon community.The daytime atmosphere is quite hot, but it's a lot of fun, like going back in time to the traditional times. Is a source of antique and pottery sources.There are a lot of ancient food to eat, such as hand-roasted coffee, Khao Chae Lung Dang etc.

Koh Kret is no longer the quaint, quiet place of the past. The northern (commercial) tip of the island is a congested jam of shops, vendors, restaurants and coffee shops... especially crowded on weekends. Visitors can still get a taste of the quiet island life by walking the circuit of the island (about 6 kilometers total). Entry onto the island from the southern point (via Wat Klang Kret rather than the more common crossing at the north end from Wat Sanam Nuea) drops visitors to the more rural and quiet part of the island. Although it gives a sense of laid-back Thai rural life, it is also a bit depressing as many of the homes and backyards are strewn with garbage and trash. Most of the old potteries have now been abandoned. The shops at the north end of the island now sell mostly mass produced trinkets. There are still some of the old drink vendors, but not like the creative innovative style of years past. There are some very pleasant restaurants along the river and one famous underground craft beer pub( that I will let visitors find on their own).

Been told to go here to check out all the pottery done on this island in the river. We got here on a weekday so it was very quiet and fairly early, but there will be plenty of stuff to buy from tourist nic nacs to the better stuff. Food of course.
The place is also nice to do the whole circuit away from the stalls, get to see some of the life on the island, it's a bit of an oasis on the other side so I suggest you give it a go.
Plus you get to take the regular ferry boats over there and the river is always a good way to get about in Bangkok.
So it's a nice diversion from all the temples and hustle and bustle.

Had been wanting to get here over our previous three trips to BKK, and finally made it and wasn't disappointed. It was an adventure just getting here (from the Sukhumvit area - BTS to Siam > change to Siam line and get off at Saphan Taksin . Chao Phraya express boat to Nonthaburi, and then a 20-30 minute Tuk Tuk ride to the ferry that takes you across to the island). Took us a couple of hours to get here but really worth it.
We decided not to try and get right around the island because it was wet weather, but were more than happy to browse the many stalls and food outlets, that were predominantly undercover. The pottery which was actually made on the island was lovely, and some of it was very ornate. Plenty of places to stop and have a drink or something to eat. We lucked out, and found a café that had a private balcony directly overlooking the river, where we were able to sit and drink ice cold beers and partake of freshly shucked oysters from another food outlet ordered and delivered to us ( a bit decadent, but very enjoyable). Found all the people on the island to be really friendly, and happy to answer any questions to assist. The prices of goods were excellent, and even much better than places like the Chatuchak markets - all with no hard sell or vendor hassling. Overall this was one of the highlights of our Pattaya and Bangkok trip, and would thoroughly recommend getting out of the city for a day trip. p.s. Would have liked to have gotten to see the micro-brewery that was there, but unfortunately didn't get there this time. Will look forward to seeing it on the next trip, and also seeing more of the island (depending on the weather).

This place is far from the city and we took a taxi which cost appx 350 bhat.
There is shuttle boat to reach the island, but we found it very hard to locate the pier where you can get the boat. It cost you just 2 Bhat per person to cross the river.
We were there during the week. Most of the shops are closed. Still we did some shopping and priced very very reasonable.
There are some temples to visit.
Something different to explore when you are in Bangkok.
Certainly I will visit next time during the weekend.

Nice island to walk around. You will need more time than you think. Prepared to spend at least 2 to 3 hours in the island.

Siam BTS - 7 stations to Mo Chikt BTS - short walk to Chatuchak Park metro station - get off at Nonthaburi civic centre or nearby station - take a taxi. Or take a taxi all the way, about 26 km. There are many places to eat, but when we were there on a weekday, many was closed. We did not eat here so I cannot recommend any places

hi need some good advise about a trip to koh kred we are staying on the riverside near saphan taskin and looking at the tour prices its far to expensive can anyone tell me me the best way to get there surely as we are on the riverfront we can get a ferry up to the island. any help appreciated .

Hi Franck,
You can easily take a green flag boat from one of the piers anywhere along the river for a few bahts, or an orange flag boat up to Nonthaburi pier and then a green flag one for 15 bahts. You then need to take the small boat for 2 or 10 bahts depending on where you stopped with your first boat to cross over to the island. Very easy and cheap, and beautiful place to visit! Hope that helps!
