- carlitosgardelViveiro, Spain3,671 contributionsThe summit under construction February 2024Beautiful temple that is accessed by climbing about 350 steps, during the climb, ponds with carp flowing water and lots of vegetation make it a special place, as well as the bells to ring at the different breaks along the way. At the top different views of the city. They are undergoing restoration work so access to the top is prohibited. Entrance price 100 thb. Just before the ticket office there is a traditional Thai clothing rental shop.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 February 2024
- Karoli24714 contributionsMust do in BangkokThis temple is one of the oldest in Bangkok and to climb up the Golden Mountain (79m) is a must do in Bangkok. The temple is not so nice like the main and famous temples at the river, but this green Oase with the hill is really nice. From the top of the hill you have a great view over the oldtown and the skyscrapers in the background. You can combine this attraction with a visit of Wat Rachabophit which is close to the hill. Only a 20min foodwalk to Chnatown. The best time to visit is early in the morning. Then it’s not so hot and there is most often no smog.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 20 February 2024
- Michael ULas Vegas, Nevada48,595 contributionsWorth the climbFree to locals and less than $2USD for tourists Wat Saket is arguably the most impressive Buddhist temple in Bangkok. Built in the Ayutthaya-era the main temple is accessed by 344 steps and thereby best visited during shaded times or early morning. Featuring impressive city views and an extensive collection of Buddhas plus paintings guests should set aside 60-90 minutes depending on athleticism and interest.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 March 2024
- КсенияIvanovo, Russia29 contributionsI recommend visiting this placeI chose this temple first to visit. And I have never regretted it! Unlike other temples in Bangkok, Wat Saket is very calm. Here you will find quiet relaxing music, humid fog everywhere, which really helps you from the heat, a lot of greenery and small waterfalls, as well as many interesting locations. Despite the fact that the temple is not big , we walked there quietly for 3 hours. There are not many people, there is no crowd. Entrance fee is 100 baht. Beautiful views from the heights of the Golden Mountain. All climbs and stairs are equipped for comfortable passage, which is very important for me! There is a place to relax and sit if you are tired of climbing. I definitely recommend visiting.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 March 2024

The walk up takes you through landscaped, chapels, subsidiary temples and bells, in a circular path up to the peak. The temple at the top houses many altar, but the most important structure is the stupa believed to house a relic of Buddha brought back by Prince Pritsadang from Sri Lanka. Sadly, the stupa is currently undergoing renovation and little of it can be seen. The views from the top are amazing!Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 12 April 2024
- Gina RItaly83 contributionsBeautifulBeautiful temple off the beaten track. It is within walking distance (10-15 minutes) from Sam Yot MRT. The climb up Golden Mountain is beautiful. The stairs are gentle and lead along a circular path to the top, past niches, chapels, bells and gongs. The stupa at the top is under restoration, but the views are just as good. At the base there are shops selling food, drinks and souvenirs. There are also tables for sitting and resting. The tourist ticket also includes a bottle of water. It is well worth a visit. Tip: Wear a cap and sunglasses as the sun is very strong there.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024
- Ole Blue EyesTustin, California232 contributionsBeautiful templeI visited here with my wife and three kids one lovely and extremely hot afternoon. The temple has nicely manicured grounds with pretty vegetation. The temple has a great view of the city as well. I recommend morning time for a not so hot experience though. As with all the temples I’ve visited in Thailand, I loved this one too.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 July 2024
- Jonathan Phan310 contributionsSerenity and Stunning ViewsWat Saket, also known as the Golden Mount, was another highlight of our trip. We took plenty of photos and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The views from the top are incredible, providing a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a quiet spot with beautiful scenery.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 January 2025
- FXLRSKarlstad, Sweden50 contributionsA place of stillness and reflectionAs you enter the area, the noise of the city feels distant, and a sense of stillness and peace emerges. The temple is located on a hill, and the short hike up the spiral staircase is really worth every step. Along the way you will be met by beautiful waterfalls, Buddhist statues and the sound of meditative bells that create a soothing atmosphere. Interaction with monks – a unique opportunity Inside the temple there is a chance to interact with monks, which makes the visit extra special. Here you can participate in Buddhist rituals, ask questions or receive blessings – a unique experience that creates a deeper connection to the place and its spiritual significance. Magical view from the top When you reach the top of Golden Mountain, you are rewarded with a panoramic view of Bangkok. The golden chedi (stupa) glitters in the sun and gives an enchanting feeling, especially at sunset. The view from the top is both beautiful and inspiring, and it’s a place where you can stop and really take in the city’s contrasts – the bustling metropolis below and the quiet sanctuary above. Marketplace and merit At the temple there is also a lively marketplace where you can enjoy local delicacies and participate in traditional Buddhist acts, such as giving gifts or merit (e.g. by lighting candles or donating to monks). It is a lovely place to stroll around and discover both Thai culture and food. Summary Golden Mountain is more than just a temple – it’s a magical place that offers a deep sense of stillness and spirituality amid the city’s pulse. With its beautiful design, magnificent views and the possibility of interaction with monks, it is an experience that leaves a strong impression. Don't miss this gem while visiting Bangkok!Visited January 2025Travelled soloWritten 10 January 2025
- Jonique LifeAustralia1,864 contributionsThe Golden MountWe got to this temple by taking the water taxi and then walking across the bridge to get here. For foreigners there is a fee to get into here (100 tb) and there is only one way to enter this temple on the rock and only one way to get down. We loved walking up the stairs to the temple as the views were wonderful!!! Even if you don’t go up to the temple there is a few other attractions on the outside such as different sculptures, cafes and other temples nearby which are free. “Jonique Life” If you find value in our reviews please consider following our social media outlets on Facebook and Instagram as we highlight magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.Visited January 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 January 2025

Single trip.. I ended up spending more time here than planned.. Found the site to be restful.. So much higher above the city.. 0a firm breeze helped to cool things down a bit while I was taking in the breathtaking skyline view of Bangkok.
Easy climb.. But not wheelchair friendly.. 50 Baht entrance fee.. Makes this probably one of the cheapest and easiest places in the city to enjoy..
Take a camera.. Take sunscreen.. Mind the steps.. Beware that this mount is an active prayer site as well.

We decided to visit as it was relatively cheap to enter, only 50 baht each. Typically only for tourists 😡. Ladies and gents make sure your shoulders and knees are covered, otherwise its 50 baht to hire a scarf and 50 baht to hire a wrap around skirt, plus 100 baht deposit.
Be prepared theres 344 steps to get up, although they aren't mental steep steps and theres plenty along the route to keep your mind off the fact that you're melting and out of puff.
Theres a coffee cafe about half way up but we didnt go inside.
At the top theres a little sanctuary to see some buddhas, vending machines for a drink and fans.
Then another level up theres a big golden bell shaped structure and views of the city!
There was also other buddha shrines etc scattered elsewhere but we decided not to do them all.
Well worth a visit.

We came on a Sunday morning to visit this Bangkok’s most familiar landmarks. We understand it was just reopened in April 2022, there is much lesser crowd probably due to the pandemic transitioning, but make for a better trip where we can feel safer & more enjoyable.
Clearly visible from a distance, the Golden Mount at Wat Saket is a 58 metre high hill crowned by a huge gleaming golden chedi. We alighted at Saymot BTS and walked a good 20 mins here, entering via the side gate. While they are quite some visitors there were no din, there’s serenity and respect for the religious premise. Near to the starting steps up there are Displays related to the history of the Temple as well as the exchanges Thailand has with many other nations. Quite an eye-opener to read them and get more Insight!.
Entrance fee is 50 TBH and one can start the 300+ step staircase hike, should be an easy enough for most to climb, snakes its way around the hill to the top. Along the way are the various Buddha statues which remind us of some Japanese temples of similar setup. Be rewarded by the paranomic 360 degree views, an amazing and stunning view over Bangkok. Beside the view there are some other interesting things to look into; the many Buddha images, the temple hall, the pagoda, the scripture hall, and even the Sri Maha Bodhi tree!
We departed via a different route, where there are many shop houses and cafes. And some taxi, tuk-tuk hankering for business. With its panoramic views out over the city and calm, peaceful atmosphere away from the bustle of hectic life, the area is well worth a visit during your stay in the capital.

If you been there in the early morning, you will not see many people and it's not busy. You have to walk more the 100 steps to get on the top. It was little tired. I always see Burmese people more than Thai every time that I go. The views are excellent from the top, you can see around Bangkok.

We went at night in Makha Bucha Holiday. Place and all surrounding statues, buildings look amazing when illuminated and there were lots of people doing candlelight processions. We walked up the mountain, enjoyed the views and spirituality of the place before slowly descending and walking past Buddha, vulture statues to name a few. One of my favorite temples in Bangkok.

Really nice temple that is not so famous with tourists but it was the favourite one I have visited because it is different. Going upstairs has a very nice vibe because of beautiful waterfalls placed along the way, with statues of animals and nice sounds. When you arrive to the temple, go inside and then go even more up by the stairs of the temple so you arrive at the rooftop with giant golden bell and beautiful sunset view of above. There were many monks in this temple so it is very active. Good opportunity to see them. It seems very authentic. I liked and the fee is just 50 baht.

This beautiful temple is located on the Saen Saep Canal and next to the Phanfa pier of Bangkok. The temple opens at 8am though the best time for visit is 4 pm till sunset around 6 pm *closing time). As a foreign citizen I had to pay 100 THB per person. My friend and I climbed up the top of this temple to see the 360 degre amazing view of Bangkok. Visitors must not wear shorts and short pants to enter the place.
The most amazing thing in this place was there is a cove that has the ruins and Buddha statues of Bamyan (Afghanistan).

One of the best temples in Bangkok. It seems to be a bit under the radar and therefore you don't really find too many tourists coming in here like other popular temples in Bangkok. The view from the top is amazing on a clear day. Once you are on the top I would recommend taking some time off and enjoy the peace.

We headed to the Golden Mount by Grab (app) on our first day in Bangkok. It was about 2pm. Traffic was busy but it wasn’t overly busy at the Golden Mount. It was very hot. If I was to ever go back I would go earlier in the morning. We did have to dress in respectable attire. Knees and shoulders covered at all times.
On arrival we purchased our tickets and headed up 300+ steps to the top. Near the base of the steps there is a cemetery, where plague victims ashes were buried. We enjoyed the walk threw the lovely shaded jungle settings, small waterfalls and Buddhist statues on the way up. which had a few places to stop for a rest. It took us about 15 mins to reach the top. At the top there is stunning panoramic views of Bangkok, wall of bells & the stupa. We spend about an hour to an hour and a half walking the grounds including the walk up and back down.
At the bottom there is a neat replica cave that had Buddhist statues. There is also Wat Saket. Wat Saket was used to cremate the deceased who couldn’t afford a funeral as well as the plague victims. Wat Saket is still a place of worship and there is monks living quarters close to site.
There is also a lot of other temples in walking distance around the base. That were incredible to see. Not 100% sure if it all is classifed as the same property or not.

This was my favourite attraction in Bangkok. It was not over crowded, it's absolutely beautiful and had so many lovely areas. It will also lend appropriate clothing if needed. At the base of the mount are several different rock gardens each with its own theme. There are many different Buddha statues all over and almost a cave like area with a large stone Buddha. Lovely trees, plants and flowers surround ponds as you begin the walk up. hundreds of different bells all with a different tone are on each level. When you get to the top there is even more lovely Buddha statues inside! Not to mention stunning 360 views at the very top! This really is an often overlooked treasure and shouldn't be missed!

We are thinking of visiting the Golden Mount late afternoon or at sunset, can anyone tell me what time does the Golden Mount Close or if there is a closing time please? Many Thanks.

There seems to be mixed info on price - is it free or 50baht?
Written 25 April 2019
The 50 baht ticket is for the complete Golden Mount experience. The money goes towards rebuilding the mount foundations and other maintenance. The ticket is valid all day so you can go back in the evening. Depending on your time availability allow 2/3 hours to thoroughy explore and absorb the atmosphere. From the summit you can take in the original old city. Personally I found it most memorable and wish I had visited previously.

Taxi is the easy way, but I went on a Klong boat, you can walk to Asok as mentioned or get the MRT to National Stadium and then it is only a 300m or so walk to the Hua Chang boat stop at Chaloemla 56 bridge. The stop is on the Stadium side.

I've been to Golden Mount but didn't pay much attention to what was at ground level. Going back later this month, will have a family member who won't be fit to climb stairs. Is there a cafe or similar at the ground level where she can stay while we go up?

You can use all kinds of transport s.a. TukTuk, public bus (funny!) or by motor cycle. There is also a nice walk along the canal Rob Krung. You will encounter many salesman.
Just about everything in Bangkok can be reached by TukTuk, just negotiate a good price in advance.
Have fun!
