The area

Neighbourhood: Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.

Good hospitality. Hotel and staff were very friendly and welcoming and helpful. We did lots of tours all arranged through hotel. Our interpreter was excellent and very friendly. Driver was very good and considerate. We give this tour 5 out of 5. Enjoyed our holiday to maximum. Did lots of shopping from weekend market. Enjoyed journey on boats which was free anytime anywhere provided by hotel. A great service. And we will go back again hopefully. Thanks to everyone looking after us.

Bangkok is back to live. My very first review after the covid. Come back to Thailand this time because of no more quarantine. And Silom life is still greatest place to hang out.

So where to begin....Got it. This is my experience on the Sunday Night Market that closes to entire street. First getting there is a breeze by the BTS it is right there. This is a fun place to spend a couple hours at night to fill your belly with some food or just people watch. What I did notice is that some of the stuff here is slightly more expensive but not that bad based off of American standards. I didn’t go down to any or the bars so I don’t know about that. I just stuck on the Main Street. Lots of food and knockoff items to check out. And definitely a place to stop by if your on vacation and in the area.

To all tourist reading this and thinking of going to the SIlom Night Market. There is no such thing called the Silom Night Market. You will not find it on a map. I live right off Silom Road and pass this street thousands of time day and night. Silom Road is a major business street in central Bangkok, with major office buildings, bank headquarters, and many businesses. There is a cross street called Phat Pong, which runs from Silom to Surawong Road. During the day it is a thru street for vehicles, and at night, closed for a night baazar. Along with the junk sold here, for years vendors lined Silom Road with more one of a kind knock offs and junk. Police removed them for blocking the sidewalks, however as of this review, they are moving back onto the street. So these two, Phat Pong and Silom offer big shopping of junk. Why do I say that ? I watch them at about 3:00 unloading their goodies from big bins, and then at midnight loading up these goodies back in their bins. This is repeated day after day. This somewhere has been named Silom Night Market, but again there is no formal place with this name. In addition this area is an adult area, with many gogo bars, ladies and boys, host bars, gay and straight and a Foodtown Supermarket, open 24 hours. So, if you are in the area, you will not be able to avoid it, but certainly not somewhere you will be running to.

Silom night market can be reached by a tuktuk, taxi or BTS train (metro) Saladaeng.
This nightmarket I found a little bit expensive, compared to the nightmarket in Pratunam, which is close to Bayoke Tower. At the Silom market you will find bags, fake watches, clothing etc. etc. Thai arts, Household things, and around this all: gaybars, shows and the so called by Thai TukTuk drivers a “Ping Pong” show. This area is also known as PATPONG. PATPONG is the red light district in Bangkok. Years ago it was only one street. NOW Patpong becomes, I think, the largest red light area in Bangkok. If you wanted to see the actual Sodom and Gomorrah, than silom market and around is the place to visit.

Is it worth going there? Frankly, it is a place of no interest, except for those who want to experience patpong bars, or who are interested in buying counterfeit branded items. Expect to be approached by sometimes aggressive touts (Thai words that tourists don't understand). Anyway, this "market" is not for me.

We have been here a couple of times , you can grab a cool ice at haagen dasz or a snack at the other food shops in the area. Then make yourself comfortable at a step or at the nearby „patpong“ sign. So you can see tourists getting tricked into the ping pong show from the ping pong hustlers. Funny thing to see.
