Since this was the best way to get to the Grand Palace and Temples, we took this several times. We must be masochists. People crowd in and will walk over you Be prepared ...they are a nation of nose-pickers. Absolutely no dignity. They stand talking...More

The first time I took this boat -recognizable by an Orange Flag- I was thrilled by the experience.. It is like a public bus on water, but with only one entrance that also serves as exit. Standing on a moving ponton to get on and...More

This is a cheap and easy way to get around and see the activities on the river. Also, a good way to see the skyline of Bangkok. Grand hotels and ordinary people trying to make a living.

The Express boats are an excellent way to travel in this chaotic busy city. Fresh air, the whistles of the boat men, an ever changing shoreline - do it. Forget the "tourist" boat and go local.

Easy to get there after BTS Skytrain; best way to visit the Temples and Royal Palace. The river skyline, some large malls, best roof top bars of the city there. Th express boat service in BKK, a must.

This is best way to travel and cover the tourist spots for outsiders. The travel cost is low and one can avoid the city traffic! The task to reach the main Pier can be challenging if you are staying away. The boats are dated and...More

Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is
Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During
the day, the main street and its small alleyways are
filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and
flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and
all-day markets. The real action, however, happens
after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and
tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast

My understanding is that nighttime boating on the river is restricted for safety reasons, as many of the boats travel quite fast and also many do not have any lighting. In addition, it is hard for the poorer people, in their... More
