An ordinary Thai neighborhood which centers around the square with King Taksin monument and the Wongwian BTS station. Here life goes on, as if tourism still has to be invented. No business geared to westerners, a relief after Khao San in Banglamphu and even Silom and Sukumvit. Go to Wongwian market early in the morning, pass by the old Wongwian railway station, join the joggers around Taksin monument or just observe ordinary Thai city life.

Make the effort to see this area. A real authentic Thai area devoid of all the tourist traps. See and be part of real Thai living, plenty to see and do. Take the metro and walk.

The central statue is General Taksin who later became The King of Thonburi. During Songkran 2018 (April 13-15) it was decorated with colorful neon lights and a carnival atmosphere. As the weather cools during the evening hours the locals use it as a running/walking loop. The roundabout is busy from the morning into the evening so I'm not sure how people are able to cross the street to make it to the actual circle. The surrounding area is an assortment of random stores, food options, massage places, and a nearby bustling marketplace. The Wongwian Yai BTS stop is not far away in addition to the many bus stops located in the streets branching off the roundabout. It will be obvious with groups of locals, especially students standing and waiting. There are bridges that cross over the streets which makes walking safe. Take a quick stop and enjoy a quick overlook view of the hustle and bustle representative of Bangkok - The City of Life

This area of Thonburi, is well served by both BTS and excellent bus routes, leading to all parts of the City. There is a very large market, which starts at 2 am. There are a few hotels, though sparse, and little in the way of major shops, around the main Square, which carries an impressive statue of King Thaksin on horseback.

This is a large roundabout in Thon Buri where the statue of King Thaksin is situated. This area used to be a major business area of Thonburi, before urbanisation reached the outer area of Bangkok. There are many markets, retail outlets, department stores and cinemas as well as restaurants and street food stalls. The area is also famous for the largest number of Thai leather traders on Charoen Rat Road opposite the railway station.

Take your time and stroll through the local fresh market which is very interesting to see. Continue to the train station and watch the people how they enter and exit the train, after a look on the statue in the middle of the big roundabout you could visit e.g. the Princess Mother Memorial Park in the north next to the river.
