This majestic shrine honors the Republic of China's war dead. Marvel at the soldiers' precision at the changing of the guard ceremony that occurs every hour.

An Interesting and Beautiful Place

The martyr's shrine is a lovely place on the outskirts of the city dedicated to people who have given their lives for the country.

Megalomanic shrine built in honor of hundred of thousands killed on the different battles of Shan Kai Chek and the oponents to build "his" China which he failed to do. The change of the guard every hour reminds us other places should not be mentioned.

This shrine is located in the Zhongshan District of Taipei and was constructed in 1969. It is carved into the side of an immense hill and a precision changing of the guard ceremony and march takes place precisely at the top of the hour throughout the daytime. You are allowed free access to the grounds and the ceremony starts at... More

Good activity if you have some spare time (quite tricky to get too if you don't catch a bus or taxi). Once there the place was smaller than I imagined but still a great visit. Watching the change of guards, looking at all the architecture and reading all the information make this a pleasant visit. Would I say it's a... More

Is good place to visit if you have enough time. This is especially for the change of guard performance which is quite different from other that you could see at other places in Taipei.

This place i'd say was too troublesome to go to. For one, there is no metro and you have to take a bus, it took quite a bit of transfers to be abe to get here. The changing of guards werent that spectacular and the place was just okay. Dont put this too high o your must visit. There are... More

G'day All I was in Taiwan on business and had a spare day so I headed off to the Shrine. It's a taxi ride out of Taipei city but not too far. The scale of the site is enormous with a grand traditional entry gate. The parade ground is long and has to be 300-400m long to the Shrine. The... More

One of the many must sees in Taipei. Be sure to wait for the changing of guards which happens every hour.

When an official site honors certain officers and privates it is interesting to see how sacrafice is seen locally.

Before one even enters this building, one gets the feel of the solemnity of the venue. The martyrs do deserve this treatment as they have died for their country. The march ceremony was good and appropriate; however, just wished that it was closer to that displayed by the British at the change of guards ceremony in London outside Buckingham palace.
