The collection at Chimei Museum consists mainly of Western art, musical instruments, arms and armour, animal taxidermy and fossils, exhibiting approximately 4000 items, which is about one third of the complete Chimei collection. Founder Shi expressed that, “Good works of art are not to be kept just for oneself to enjoy, but to be shared with the public; and a good collection should not reflect jus

The western style building reminds me of the US state capital building which looked a bit out of place in Tainan. The collection of string instruments and weaponry were nice. The rest seem a hodgepodge of different things. It was really crowded as we visited over Chinese New Year holiday period.

If you have a blank day which you don't know what to do in Tainan, visit this museum. (except weekends..) They have quite a huge and nice collection. I enjoyed very much as well the huge park outside, you can picknick, jog or just easy walk around.

This museum is pretty new and located outside of Tainan city. If you are taking HSR with light hand luggage, you can take the shuttle bus at HSR station to city and stop at Chimei. As there are luggage storage available in the entrance hall (refer to picture). Else, if you are coming from Tainan city, it's best to take... More

The museum has an incredible collection of taxidermy, and a comprehensive collection of musical instruments from all over the world. While we were there, there was a live classical music concert at the lobby. We also enjoy strolling in the ground. It's a museum that you can spend a half day there.

The outdoor area of this museum is awesome. So many things to see outdoor. As for the museum itself, the section with the history of violin must absolutely fantastic. My daughter really enjoyed the video on the making of a violin (though English subtitles would have been much appreciated for this video).

I took my niece there during the visit in Taiwan. The museum provides great starter museum experience for young children. The size of the building and amount of collection is perfect for a half-day tour (plus picnic in the surrounding park makes an even more perfect day!) for young children.

I came twice to this museum, in the evening and in the morning. We will find the museum shining due to lights if you come in the evening. And you maybe find it's misty in the morning. You can go to this museum by bus or train. You can take R3 or R4. If you take the train, you can... More
