The Singalila Dzongri Goechala Trek is an extremely beautiful trek in a remote part of West-Sikkim. I recommend it to all nature lovers. Fabian Tamang is a wonderful guide who likes to share his passion for the mountains with his clients. With this trek he has chosen a perfect round through a lot of amazing landscapes. Before starting the actual trek, we visited with him the capital of Sikkim, Gangtok, and he showed us the most important monasteries as Rumtek and Pemayangtse.
On the first part of the trek we discovered a completely remote area of the Sikkim jungel and mountains, where we didn`t meet any tourist. We admired the colorful rhododendron blossom, meadows covered with violet primulas, gigantic pine trees, mossy woods and wild yaks. We also have been very lucky to see early in the morning at the sunrise the hughe white majestic mountains Kangchenjunga, Kabru, Talung, Pandim, Jopung and many more from the Dzongri and Goecha La view point. It was extraordinary! Fabian Tamang explained us a lot about the himalayans, the flora and the fauna. We had a fabulous crew of 7 lovely local people and 7 ponies who made our 11 days of camping trek an unforgettable time. They worked hard to set up our tents in the rain and to give us most comfort as possible. There was always a smile on their faces and it was good fun to sit with them in the kitchen tent or around a fire place. Our lovely cook and his two great assistents cooked for us gorgeous local healthy food and even managed to bake a cake at high altitude!
The 17 days travel with Fabian Tamang was a brilliant mixture of culture and trekking so that we got a very good insight of bouddhism, the people of Sikkim and their history and a great experience in the Himalayas. We will keep those fantastic memories for ever in our mind! To avoid fog and rain and to get more views of the high mountains, I would recommend to do this wonderful trek in april or in october/november.

The eleven days expedition organized by Farout Trek based in Kalimpong was composed by nine members. On top of Fabian Tamang, head of Farout Trek, there were two Sherpas, one cook, two cook assistants and two poney-men. The group started off from Yuksom on 23 October and reached the base camp at Tariphuley on 28 October. A C1 just below 5000m and a C2 at 5500m were set up. The summit was reached on 2 November at 4.30 AM by Sherpas Tashi and Richung and myself.
The expe proved a success thanks to the professional breath of Fabian's Farout Trek team.

We did two back-to-back treks with Fabian from Faroutrek: the Singalila Ridge traverse in Sikkim and The Three Passes Trek in the Everest region. There were no tea houses on the Singalila Ridge so our group was fully supported with camping gear, cooks and ponies. Fabian organized a fantastic team that kept us happy, comfortable and well-fed throughout the trip. We saw no other groups most of the way until we got closer to the Goechala viewpoint. I would recommend this trip if you want to get off the beaten path.
The Everest trip was just two of us plus Fabian and a porter. We were happy to be a smaller group, especially after seeing some of the larger groups passing by. Fabian and Kamal looked after us well and made sure we had good rooms and food at the tea houses. Fabian speaks English very well, allowing us to have interesting, informative and entertaining conversations throughout the seven weeks we were together. We noticed many of the other guides were less functional in this regard. Having a sense of humour is important in the mountains! We would highly recommend Fabian and Faroutrek for both these trips in the Himalayas.

We love to travel and use TripAdvisor often to read about trips, locations, activities, and operators. Most of the time you can evaluate an operator by the promptness and thoroughness of emails responding to questions or concerns we have as guests. We were headed to Darjeeling to do a trek and I read about a few expedition operators and decided to contact a more personal outfit: Farout Trek.
The owner, Fabian, answered all my questions quickly and completely via emails and we picked the Sandakphu - Gurdung itinerary because of the perfect views of Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Lohtse, 4 of the 5 highest peaks on the planet.
What you can expect from Farout Trek and Fabian:
- Personalized service from an experienced guide and guardian
- He employs excellent sherpas and an excellent driver (so important in India)
- He knows the routes and the best places to stop for rest or food
- Super organized and speaks fluent comprehensible English
- You carry a day pack, sherpas take your other bag
- Understands and explains the geography and ecology of the Himalayas
- All inclusive rates and a great value
- Insane, once in a lifetime views of the Himalaya's and Everest peaks (simply an incredible experience)
Fabian will trek at your pace. The Sandakphu trek is a moderate climb for beginners and an easy climb for the more experienced. My wife and I are in our late 50's, in good physical shape and had no issues. We had no problems with the altitude. (14,000 ft) I was personally suffering from a sciatic issue and Fabian slightly altered the downhill portion of the trek to relieve the pressure on my vertebrae. (Fabian stays very aware of his guests) We finished all the legs of the trek in much less time than Farout lists on their website and the weather was perfect in October. Cool nights and warm days.
The Tea Houses (B&B's along the Singalila Trail) are rustic but comfortable. The food is very good as well. We recommend bringing lightweight sleeping bags and pillow covers while out on the trail. While in Darjeeling, if your room/boarding tastes are less rustic and more Western style (before the trek/after being out trekking for 5 days) be sure and tell Fabian that and he can upgrade your Darjeeling accommodations to meet your expectations. We stayed at the Cedar Inn and loved it.
Farout is highly recommended and exceeded my lofty expectations....Don't miss the 4:30am wake-up call to see the sunrise towards Everest and Kanchenjunga. Unforgettable!!
Thanks Fabian, we loved it!

Fabian is an excellent and thoughtful guide. His planning is impeccable, which means the trip ran very smoothly and all I had to do was enjoy the wonderful scenery , views of the Himalayas and beautiful forrest. He also goes above and beyond what you could expect. While trekking I had quite a severe cold, Fabian organised ginger soup and hot water bottles taking good care of me.If you are thinking of doing this trail in my opinion Fabian is the guide to go with. If you are considering trekking in Nepal, Sikkim or Darjeeling , Fabian can arrange it, he has extensive experience and is happy to do tailor made itinerary’s.

you can avail this entire trip under rs.10000. Don't let these companies fool you. Singalila treks are one of the cheapest mountain treks/tours you can avail. they are charging you more than 5-6 times the price I had payed for the entire trip. always hire local advisors.

Dear Mr. Ronit... How on earth did you get the Idea of writing such a thing about our company when you did not even avail of our services ? we did not provide any services to you nor do we intend to do. Please be kind enough not to malign our company without actually availing of our services. Kindly keep your opinion to yourself...Travellers are aware of what is right and what is wrong. It was my first time trekking in India and I’m glad that I have decided to go with Farout Trek after reading good reviews on Tripadvisor. Fabian was prompt in replying to my queries right from the start. When we met up in Sikkim, he was attentive to our concerns after hearing more about our trekking experience. He recommended to adjust the original trekking itinerary so that we could cope better with acclimatisation. This turned out to be a good call and more well suited to our pace. Even though Fabian was not personally guiding the trek, his team took very good care of us throughout. The trekking guide, Mr Neeraj and Sherpa Mr Sarad were attentive to our needs and pace. The attention to planning details from providing variety of simple yet satisfying meals day after day on the trek to the selection of accommodation rooms to ensure that we get the best view is very much appreciated. Such small gestures but very thoughtful efforts made the trip all the more enjoyable. Very thankful to Fabian and his entire team for making it a memorable experience. If you are looking to trek in Sikkim or Nepal, get in touch with Fabian and give them an opportunity to host you. :)
