You can buy just about everything you need for a trek to Everest BC. There are more expensive options like the Sherpa store. Ive seen reviews of Gen Z/ Millennials whining about the service or how rude Shona was. Just put your money on the table and buy your gear or not.

So I was in themel and had gone to nepal just to shop at this store

They are great and honest. They clearly tell what is there manufacturing and what is fake.

I loved the price to quality ratio. I would never get the high quality gear at the price point.

I am not happy that they did not have too many color options. They had too much black.

But then I can't complain.

Overall I am happy.

I bought a -25 sleeping bag
A down jacket
Down mittens
Gloves
Down pants

All for around 36K NPR

My wife and I came to Nepal for the Annapurna Circuit, but since we’re in the middle of longterm travel, we did not bring the right gear for the trek. Which meant buying or renting everything in Kathmandu before heading to the mountains. In the tourist center of Thamel, it can seem overwhelming to figure out where to get your gear, and whether you’re getting quality items, but Shona’s Alpine makes that decision simple.

They were extremely helpful in running through a checklist of necessary items for us amateur trekkers, without pushing extra things just for additional sales, as well as sharing useful information on what we would encounter during our journey. We were able to try everything on, and the prices were all reasonable. Ultimately, we rented sleeping bags/liners and bought gloves, pants, gaiters, buffs, undershirts, socks, and poles. (We opted to trek in our sneakers, which was just fine during dry, not-too-cold October.)

FYI: If you buy stuff you’re not keeping after the trek, there are many good places to donate. We chose Three Sisters in Pokhara.

Love this place. For everything I wanted to buy, they asked 'do you want the best one, one that's ok, or one that will be good enough?'. So I got just what I needed and didn't get up sold. For example, I was looking for drybags, but the guy convinced me that the cheap plastic bags that he had would do the job for a fraction of the price.

Recommended.

Their stuff is quality, fixed price and locally made. Don't waste your time haggling in other shops over their knock off "North Face" products which will cost you more and start falling apart within days.

Shona gave good and reasonable advice in terms of what to buy for my trek and didn’t attempt to oversell to me.

We hired 4 season down sleeping bags and down jackets from Shona's for our hike from Jiri to Kalapattar. We were given excellent advice and the rates were very reasonable. All the staff gave us their help. Everything is a fixed price so you know how much it costs. We also ended up buying walking poles from here and they were invaluable on all the downhills!
Really recommend going to Shona's for your trekking gear needs - they really know what they are talking about!

Both Times I've bought gear at Shonas my experience was awesome. I'm sure the staff are tired of bring bombarded with lame questions by pushy westerners. It's simple - grab your balls, chose your gear and put money on the table. Leave. There are bigger fish to fry.

We received terrible service and bad attention since the first approach we had with the sales person. Definitely don't expect good manners. Maybe could be a good store, but I couldnt trust in the products, result of the bad service.
