Wonderful experience for a Sola female traveller!
I had a lovely experience and learned so much! I learned how to prepare and cook a 4 course menu (thupka, Bara, Momo's and pudding). There were many courses to choose from. The market visit and learning about the spices was especially fun. Highly recommend this class to anyone from beginner to experienced cooks! 🤗

Don't miss out on this cooking class!
The girls are doing such a great job! We had a very nice afternoon, we learned a lot and the food was great!! Also it's very clean, and the trip to the shop was very nice as well 😊 it was nice that we had the opportunity to buy spices together in the shop!

    Great experience
We attended the 4-course cooking class. The class included a visit to the spice shop. The cooking class was extremely well organised. The instructor and the assistants were very knowledgeable and helpful. They managed to keep an eye on everything so that nothing burned despite the whole group cooking simultaneously :) After the class, we received a recipe book by email and can't wait to try the recipes at home!

Excellent introduction to cooking in Nepal!
Reecha did a fantastic job introducing us to various vegetables at the market before class. She thoroughly explained everything cooking thukpa, bara, vegetable mo mo and carrot pudding for dessert. We had so much fun learning about Nepali cooking with her. They send you all of the recipes in your email afterwards. The only problem I had was I had to ask my tour guide numerous times to be able to get the recipes in email after I left Nepal or I wouldn’t have them. Hopefully, they will pay more attention in the future to provide this to others without having to request a copy numerous times as they tell you they will do before you leave and they confirm your email address. I highly recommend this when in Kathmandu!

    Great experience which helps locals.
We were greeted by our host who explained a bit about the different menus and then we set out to the market. We got to see local veggies and the spice shop, where we got the opportunity to buy some. After heading back to the cooking school we cracked on with making 4 dishes. They have 3 different menu options to choose from. Our host was lovely, explains everything very clearly and gives you a good insight into Nepali gastronomy. More importantly Nepal Cooking School is a charity which helps young people access education, so it’s for a great cause. Would recommend it 100%!!!

We booked a last minute cooking class, based on reviews we had seen online, this appeared to be the best one. We arrived promptly at 9am, we were the only 2 taking the class. Nimlam introduced herself and her assistant, and we were able to choose 4 dishes to cook from a selection of 16. Very shortly after we went to the “market” which was a 10 min walk down the main road. The “market” was just a grocery shop on the corner of a roundabout. We were shown the vegetables and asked what they were, including a carrot, which was not very education, however it was interesting to see some of the more local and unusual vegetables. We were not given any real information on these besides their names, it felt more like a pop quiz when we were there to learn. We then moved over the road to a spice shop, which was disappointingly brief, (3-4 minutes in and out). We were allowed to smell 4 spices and, in a similar fashion, was quizzed on what they were, however we didn’t know asides from the name written on the label. We didn’t really learn anything more than the name, which also was disappointing.

We then returned to the cooking school via a very ropey rickshaw, where we felt slightly awkward being high up on view, as your classic white tourists. Unfortunately for the rickshaw cyclist we were a combined weight of 150kg, he had no gears so he struggled to pull us up the mild inclined road. Nimlam in fact walked back quicker than we were rickshawed. It was a humerous experience which we will talk about in years to come, however, we would both have preferred if this feature of the tour was not included, as it added no value to our overall experience. However, understandably it supported a local worker, which we were happy to do, we believe this was probably the premise of the feature as it is a charity based organisation.

We returned to the kitchen and started cooking Nimlam was a good teacher and helped us successfully make 4 dishes which were all very tasty. Ultimately we felt we learnt a bit about the Nepalese cuisine and culture, which was our primary aim.

We felt the whole experience was quite rushed and would have appreciated it being padded out more with more explanation/education rather than the ‘bang bang bang’ approach we felt we received. The class was not the half day as advertised, only 2hrs and 20mins, therefore we felt our value for money wasn’t brilliant. It would be beneficial to go to the Asan Bazar (very busy/hectic central market) to spend more time and enhance the ‘local’ experience and learn more. A primary reason we booked this tour was because they take you to a market to learn. We feel the tour didn’t deliver on this point.

Nimlam and her assistant were very friendly and organised. The kitchen and toilet were clean. Ultimately we had a good experience, but it could have been a whole lot more. If you want to learn to cook some simple, but tasty dishes, maybe this is for you. Just be aware you will need to plan something else for the majority of your day.

It wasn't bad, the lecturer tried her best. The kitchen area has reserves, for example the cooker hood was not washed for a very long time. I didn't like that people who don't know each other have to agree on the choice of food. And in the end you don't eat what you cook yourself. But I will definitely take away new knowledge that I will use in my kitchen.

I loved it so much!

This is the best experience for a cooking class I've done. I came for trekking and accidentally found this class. I checked it out and asked them of I could join with my tight schedule. I had only a few hours before I went to the airport. They were willing to add me to the upcoming class!

We had 4 people in the group, really fun and the food was amazing!

Nilam and her team (Nishma, Samjhana) are the best!! Nilam brought us to the local market and spice shop. She explained all the details we should know. She is knowledgeable, has great energy, and has really good English.

Highly recommend: DO NOT have breakfast before you come for cooking class because you won't have room for all the tasty food you get to cook 😂😂😂😂

What a fun way to spend a 1/2 day in Kathmandu...Neelam and Swastika were an amazing team and introduced me to Nepali cooking techniques, recipes, and spices. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to take a bit of culture home with them.

What a great cooking experience we had in Kathmandu!! We loved it - the team is fun, very organized and the recipes are delicious! Also it is very easy to apply what you learned when back home, they share a recipe book after the session. We really enjoyed it and strongly recommend if you’re in Kathmandu & loving Nepali food like we did.

I walked the streets with my kind teacher and bought ingredients. You can see the local reals, and with a teacher you can buy spices at regular prices!
He also taught me to cook very gently and it was delicious!
You should come here when you come to Nepal!

I was recommended this cooking class from a friend and I am happy I followed his advice. Here I met Ritcha, super friendly and professional and her two assistents. Together we chose wich food we were gonna cook and then went out into the streets for some grocery shopping. Back into the kitchen we started chopping, boiling, smelling, frying, talking about everything and I had the best of times! After having a really great three course meal I found myself in a taxi, back to my hotel with a big smile on my face.
