Vegetables and produce from farms all over, all fresh & organic.
Great support to local community.
Some 400 stall on 2 floors. Well planned, airy, and easy to access and exit.
Avoid Monday, other days are open 7 am-7 pm.
Great way of interacting with local people, all so nice & friendly.
Fruits & vegetables ae all affordable and seasonal.
Plenty of small children all around, so lots of entertainment.
Vibrant colors and fresh aroma, deadly connect with nature.
Great support to local community.

We dropped by the market on a Sunday evening thinking most sellers would have gone home by then but we were proven wrong. The place was still lively and our tour guide took his chance to show us what Bhutanese use and eat in their daily life. The market was very clean, dry and well organised. For those with more time, the handicraft market is right across the street.

This has to be on you itinerary if you like to get a han gof the local life. It's a very well oragnized weekend market that gets set up on Fridays and is open through Sunday. There's an impressive range of fresh veggies, fruits, incense sticks, cheeses, Paan and what not.

My favorite thing to do in every city I visit is to go to the local market or supermarket and check out the produce. It is interesting to see that they have 5 to 6 varieties of rice. The most expensive is the red rice. They only get one harvest a year with this variety. They get 2 harvest a year with the 2 variety of white rice which they export. They look like short grain but they are not sticky like the Japanese variety.
This market offer local and imported produce(mainly from India).
If you get a chance go to the market in Punakha, where you will see ONLY local produce. I enjoyed that alot more.

We visited the sunday farmers market wich gives a good flavor of Bhutan and the farmers , we lived to walk around

Despite being very busy on a Sunday afternoon we were able to stroll around the building checking out the various stalls. The ambiance was much like a larger version of the old Covent Garden in London.
Many different fruit and vegetables in abundance. We were however surprised to see produce being exhibited in plastic bags, given the stories we had heard before coming about plastic bottles and bags being banned

One of the neatest and most well organised markets, that I have come across so far! It is a must visit. I loved the way all the grocers arranged their vegetables, fruits and other wares. I was tempted to buy the fresh vegetables and fruits. We visited this market in the afternoon on a Sunday. And ending up buying some fresh fruits and Bhutanese incense.

Had a stroll in the weekend market & purchased many local fruits.
the rates are high when they see a foreigner but one easily bargains.

Busiest space in the town on the weekends with all walks of life gathering for vegetable shopping.
Some basic amenities like rest benches, toilets and lighting need improvement.

Very clean market...no comparison with Indian markets. Cleanliness is excellent. Also theres two sections one section for Bhutanese products which are organic the other section for Indian product which of course isnt organic. There are also different stalls for different dzongkhaks(like states) selling their local products.
You should definetly pick some packets of jow(fried rice) and some dried ema(chillies) and strings of white dried yaks cheese to gift your friends back home. ☺☺☺
