- Suresh KumarBengaluru, India3,103 contributionsTIMELESS, MEMORABLE EXCURSION SPOT IN BHUTAN The mist around here is everlasting, so the mountain views are ever elusive. Ideal place for photo/video. Basic toilet plus cafeteria available. Best time to visit is early morning or evening. The snow laden 108 chortens are awesome to view on a winter day.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 October 2023
- Peter RDartford, United Kingdom1,368 contributionsTouching MemorialWe left Thimpu and headed for the phojibkha valley. A steady climb found us after about an hour at the Dochula Pass. I guide had said the views were amazing but unfortunately for us the clouds never cleared enough to allow us the spectacular view he had promised. At the pass are one hundred and eight chortens which are dedicated to those that lost their life during the insurgency in 2003. A place of quiet contemplation.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023

- Jon N3,897 contributionsA good short stopA high pass that you will pass through when you are going to Central Bhutan from Thimphu. A nice place for short break and you could see the surrounding snow cap mountains on a clear day (unfortunately for us was a misty day). It’s free to walk around and there’s a cafe for food and drinks. There’s also a monastery here (entrance fee 250 local currency)Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 April 2024
- swarnaprabha kBhubaneswar, India2,345 contributionsUnpredictable weather.Incredible. It was our first sight seeing place during the Bhutan journey. We enjoyed the place. Took photos. The weather was unpredictable there. We crossed the pass total perhaps three times. And it was raining heavily the 2nd time and foggy enough not able to see anything the 3 rd time.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 29 August 2024

The pass is about an hour from Thimphu and is a standard stop on pretty much every itinerary. There is a cafe there which serves tea . Most of the tour companies will pretty much stop for tea and the stupas . If you have some time either on your way to or back from punakha ( usually the itineraries can accommodate this on the way back to paro ) try to visit the temple which is a few minutes drive / walk at the pass .

Situated around an hours drive from Thimpu enroute too Punaka,Dochula pass is the highest point in this drive. On the way to Punaka there was a snowstorm so everything was snowed under including the stupa there. But on the way back there snow had miraculously melted, permitting beautiful views of the distant snow capped mountains and the lovely stupa. The cafe there is also worth a visit.

The 108 stupa were really impressive, and their setting was really magical. Our second visit, on the way back to Thimpu, was blessed by having clear skies. This gave us really excellent views of the distant Himalaya mountains. It is definitely a place worth visiting.

Dochula pass is a scenic mountain pass adorned with a temple atop a hill and 108 miniature stupa's in between the East West highway in Bhutan. From here you can see several round the year snowclad mountains. This site is simply so refreshing for any happy feet.

I went to Bhutan with my mother, wife and elder son. Dochula Pass was a brilliant destination for us. We travelled and visited the beautiful chortens. There was huge mist and fog in the place. We enjoyed the weather which was chilly and cold a 13000 feet.

Truly a beautiful viewpoint to go to from thimpu. One can see the snow covered peaks of the himalayas from here on a clear day. When we went some of them were covered by clouds but it still was an exhilarating experience. It is cold so please wear appropriate clothing. There is a restaurant that serves tea coffee and snacks at this place. There is also a temple and 108 stupas in this place that are worth visiting.

We were fortunate enough to arrive there with an incredibly good weather so that we could see the spectacular snow peak. Even if we don't get to see the snow peak, I still think I would have enjoyed same amount of joy and freshness there. I also enjoyed the small walk we had at the nearby forest, such a calm and quiet moment.

Written 2 February 2020
I was told not to come in July and August 'cause there are huge monsoon rains (that even destroyed - simply removed . many roads).
I was in begining of January and it was OK. They told me perfect is in March and April.

Hi planning to travel Bhutan solo in last week of November any clue about the weather and how safe is it for female solo travellers and cheapest way of traveling with Bhutan?
Written 30 September 2017
November last week might be on a much colder side as winter starts from November to Feb/March..For any traveler be it male or female no place is as safe as Bhutan! I am really fond of Bhutan after being there! Cheapest way I feel will be train to Bagdogra and from Bagdogra by road to Phuentsholing,Bhutan! Travelling by road from Bagdogra to Phuentsholing would be scenic during September-October as it will be post monsoons! I had taken flight from Mumbai-Kolkata and Kolkata to Paro! Return ticket cost was approx 24k INR per pax.

How will be the whether in second week of march
Written 20 July 2017
climate in second week of March will be cold but pleasant! I had traveled from 13th to 20th March and absolutely loved the climate! Punakha was around 15 degrees but Thimpu and Paro were cold around single digit temperature! We were lucky to receive fresh snowfall while descending from Tiger's Nest!
