- annminkyUnited States1,591 contributionsMy Respite PlaceDefinitely a nice stop when traveling from Thimphu to Punakha. When I traveled to Thimphu, the low clouds/fog covered the Himalayas. It was drizzling and cold, however, it was still a nice spot to enjoy a cup of milk tea. Lots of travelers during this time. Coming back, it was a clear day. I Hiked up to see the meditation caves and did some mindfulness. When you’re there, don’t forget to see the different trees and flowers and enjoy the view. Lunch was ok at the cafe. Tea and cookies were served with traditional Bhutan food. Don’t rush yourself, walk slow and enjoy the day (of course, take lots of pictures).Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 8 April 2023

Basic toilet plus cafeteria available. Best time to visit is early morning or evening. The snow laden 108 chortens are awesome to view on a winter day.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 October 2023

I guide had said the views were amazing but unfortunately for us the clouds never cleared enough to allow us the spectacular view he had promised. At the pass are one hundred and eight chortens which are dedicated to those that lost their life during the insurgency in 2003. A place of quiet contemplation.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023

Dochula Pass is not in Thimphu but rather some 45 minute drive east of the capitol. The history of the memorial as well as the number of chortens is spelled out in every review here so there's no need to repeat it, but what's worth mentioning is the nice cafe right across it.

This is a site composed of 108 chortens at the top of the Dochu La Pass which sits at 3100 meters. You must pass by it if you are proceeding to the Phojibkha Valley.
It is quite an experience to walk around the site, and through the various chortens. The site is a memorial atoning for the loss of life flushing out Assamese militants along Bhutan's southern border with India many years ago.

To start, Dochula Pass is a mountain pass located in the eastern Himalayas in Bhutan. It is a popular tourist destination due to its breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range and the 108 chortens (Buddhist shrines) that line the pass.
If you recently visited Dochula Pass and had an amazing experience, you might want to describe the sights and sounds you encountered during your visit. For example, you could write about the vibrant colors of the prayer flags fluttering in the wind or the peacefulness of the surrounding nature.

Despite the overcast conditions, we enjoyed our drive to the Dochula Pass from Thimphu.
We circumambulated the 108 chortens that were built to honor the bravery and sacrifices of the soldiers who perished during the battle against insurgents from ASSAM in 2003.
beautiful place to visit and lovely vibe and excellent view !!
100% must visit place in BHUTAN

Despite the cloudy day, we enjoyed our drive to the Dochula Pass. The road winds through the mountain from Paro and Thimpu until you are high in the sky. We circumambulated the 108 chortens that were built to honor the bravery and sacrifices of the fourth king and the soldiers who perished during the battle against insurgents in 2003. There are also 11 caves (small structures with benches and paintings of deities adorning the walls) that we meditated in--a very spiritual experience. A lovely cafeteria positioned with views over the valley and a small craft shop make it a good stop, especially if traveling on to Punahka and beyond (and it has clean restrooms).

I was told not to come in July and August 'cause there are huge monsoon rains (that even destroyed - simply removed . many roads).
I was in begining of January and it was OK. They told me perfect is in March and April.
My mom is planning for thimpu in march and she is an asthamatic patient with high bp issue ... Will it be comfortable for her travelling there for a week in march

Hi planning to travel Bhutan solo in last week of November any clue about the weather and how safe is it for female solo travellers and cheapest way of traveling with Bhutan?

November last week might be on a much colder side as winter starts from November to Feb/March..For any traveler be it male or female no place is as safe as Bhutan! I am really fond of Bhutan after being there! Cheapest way I feel will be train to Bagdogra and from Bagdogra by road to Phuentsholing,Bhutan! Travelling by road from Bagdogra to Phuentsholing would be scenic during September-October as it will be post monsoons! I had taken flight from Mumbai-Kolkata and Kolkata to Paro! Return ticket cost was approx 24k INR per pax.

How will be the whether in second week of march
Shardul
Mumbai, India169 contributions
climate in second week of March will be cold but pleasant! I had traveled from 13th to 20th March and absolutely loved the climate! Punakha was around 15 degrees but Thimpu and Paro were cold around single digit temperature! We were lucky to receive fresh snowfall while descending from Tiger's Nest!
