This monastery is known as an astrological center typical of the Lamaist Buddhism. The natal astrological charts can be made here for a fee, and if someone does not have "good karma" the monks can also perform several purifying ceremonies to ensure someone's spiritual growth in this dimension to some extent. The whole story that our tour guide told us was impressive.
When we visited this monastery complex, the main temple was closed due to the restoration. At the special request of our tour guide, the monks allowed us to enter a small temple where protective deities typical of Lamaist Buddhism are housed.

The Pangri Zampa Monastery is also the site of the College of Astrology in Thimphu and the location of this Monastery could not be any better. It is situated in a very nice quiet, green valley not to far from Thimphu. One thing that is not to be missed here - check-out the giant cypress tree here at the Monastery - it is huge!
This Monastery is a good example of traditional Bhutanese style architecture that is prevalent in Bhutan.

I believe this is the oldest Buddhist monastery in Bhutan. It is now the national school of astrology. Monks spend many years of study there. Climbing up the ladders, viewing the temple ceremonies and being blessed by a monk was a unique experience.

Pangri Zampa is the monastery where my guide and driver took me for a special birthday blessing and purification ceremony. The temple is exquisite with a gorgeous statue of Buddha Tara inside. We made offerings and received blessings, and then lit butter lamps to send prayers and blessings far and wide. So much important history and meaning associated with this monastery made it a great attraction and wonderful part of a memorable day.

This monastery dates back to 17th Century - Zhabdrung, Father Of Unification Of Bhutan. Today it’s the National Astrology School under the Central Monastic Body and all the county’s Astrologers gets studied here. We always include in our itinerary and all our clients love their time here checking their Luck or future predictions, it’s not too far away from down town Thimphu and I strongly recommend to visit when you are in Thimphu.

Two of the oldest monasteries are co-located here, Pangri Zampa Lhakhang and Zhabdrung Lhakhang, both of which are very old.

There are two temples in this place; Pangri Zampa Lhakhang and Zhabdrung Lhakhang. Latter was residence of Zhabdrung after he came to Bhutan. There are line of wonderful statues. The cypress that stands majestically in front of the main temple has so many interesting stories.

All the Bhutanese Astrologers gets trained from this Buddhist Monks and all the learners are Monks. After their studies from this Central Astrology School they are sent to other Dzongs, Monasteries and Temples for any Astrology related rituals. We are lucky we visited this special Monastery after our Hike from Tango Buddhist University and Cheri Meditation Center.
