Actually al Kabir 'the Great' is not that large in size compared to the 19th century mosques in Cairo or even the older ones in Isfahan. It makes a rather modest impression with two Egyptian style minarets and a hall of some 10m in height...More

unique characteristics like its geometric and interlace patterned ornaments, thi mosque does draw some influence from Persian, Roman, Byzantine Chinese and Indian architecture - take a closer look!

The mosque was under rehabilitation abut still you can enjoy the architecture and the worshiping atmosphere. It is in the heart of the town so a visit is kinda must.

I visited this Masjid and said my prayer. The construction of this mosque is nice, it is decorated nicely. The masjid is seen from all the direction almost similar. a very big masjid where thousands of people can pray together.

From the size and location you can tell how important this mosque is. I got the honor to pray there, it gives you the privilege to see the humble lives of the hardworking class of Khartoum

Thinking Khartoum does not offer much other than River Nile, Al Kabir may be the first attraction spot. Hosting 4 different schools of Islam, it is an interesting experience seeing those people praying at different places and all the prayer times, mosque is very crowded.

One of the first mosques in Khartoum.. at the time, it was the largest and most luxurious.. now it is considered vintage and quite ordinary! It has a strategic location, in the city center near the main Souq.. be aware of shoes - thieves
