This site of the April 1994 massacre has been declared a genocide memorial. It remains a solemn tribute to those who were slain, the bones and belongings of the dead still lying among the aisles and the altar.

My wife and I specifically sought out this memorial to tour as it was a location where 11,000 people were executed. It is well preserved and the information provided by the staff is very sobering. Lots of lessons to be learned here and a must...More

This site is on the road before Nyamata - it's harrowing and horrible but definitely worth checking out.

Alongside Nyamata, you should go see this site. It will give you a sense of how terrible the genocide was in this part of Rwanda.

It's a bit difficult to get to this site ( there is a bus) but if you want to know the real story of the genocide you must make the effort.

Couldn’t hold back my tears while visiting this place. I thought I had seen it all after visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial, but that’s was before coming to place afterwards. Horror is still marked on those walls, showing to visitors the heartbreaking tragedy of Rwandan genocide....More

This is another stirring genocide site and just 20 minutes from Nyamata. You may wish to choose between here and Nyamata.

Out of respect for the victims and to help to remember what happened a friendly place one should visit.I had a friendly young guide to show me as a single visitor around. His biggest concern was to show proof against the genocidedenials.
