Muslim Quarter/Masjid Alfatah (Victory Mosque) Masjid Alfatah is the largest and oldest mosque of Rwanda, located in suburban area of Nyamirambo (commonly known as Nyamijos) about 7 kilometers south west of Kigali city center. It is nicknamed and better known as “Green Mosque” because of its green and white minarets. It was founded in late 1930s when Muslims merchants first... More

Visited the oldest area in Kigali, the Muslim quarter... I found it quite bustling, full of energy, and vibrant. The people were very friendly. Did a quick tour of the mosque and the stores nearby, and also visited the Nyamirambo Women Center with their nice souvenirs. Overall a good visit.

We visited this as part of a TIA package, that included a tour of the old part of Kigali. It is well worth a visit, as it shows Kigali from a different viewpoint (not just the Switzerland of Africa, modern city perspective). Nice to wander around the old alleys and streets and experience life as is.

I am so glad I went there. I enjoyed the visit to the mosque, the Imam was very welcoming and knowledgeable. I also visited the women's center a couple blocks up the road and bought nice souvenirs! Highly recommended!

Most of Kigali is orderly and clean. Nyamirambo is clean but this is where you get a real feel for everyday Rwandan life.

Mostly I make it mandatory to visit this Muslim Quarter Mosque at least once during my visit to Kigali. A peaceful area to offer prayers and seek tranquility and feel yourself aloof from the busy Kigali life. It is pretty colorful from inside with some architectural designs inside. Nyamirambo has a historic significance after the 1994 Genocide, as this quarter... More

Said to be the oldest quarter of Kigali, the area of interest stretches along a road that has nice views across to Mt. Kigali. Most interest of all are the shops, many with brightly-painted facades: hair salons, shops selling caps, groceries, phone cards, soft drinks. The main mosque, nicely painted (but not really very large) is at one end; walk... More

Strictly not very impressive or interesting. The food and stuff in this quarter is cheap but nothing much to see

Take the tour provided by the Nyamirambo Women's Center that offers a personal look inside homes and cultural life of the area. The two hour walking tour is worth it! See the beautiful views from the quarter to enjoy life form the residents' eyes. See how people of different faiths live together.
