Nyamata church is a moving but chilling memorial to the victims of the genocide. Whilst the Kigali memorial is extremely well set up, Nyamata really brings to life the horrors and atrocities committed in 1994. If setting off from Kigali, several hours should be allocated for the visit to allow for travel time and the visit, and the churches usually... More

This church is definitely worth a visit For us the simplicity of it made the atrocities of the genocide very real The layout and structure is as it was in 1994 and the local curator explained the history in simple terms We found it to be one of the most emotional experiences of all the genocides museums in Kigali Donations... All people who are concerned about right and wrong and justice and injustice and are aware of their own potential for falling into ethnic, or race or trible hatred, must visit this Memorial. It is a vitally necessary visit, not only because of the horror of seeing the results of a genocide but also a record of people who resisted... More

The sight of a devastating attack during the genocide, this church highlights the extreme efforts both sides went to during the conflict. As with the main memorial in Kigali, this one will certainly make you reflect on the events of 1994, and also on life itself. It will almost certainly move you as well!

When we went here I thought we were visiting a current church. It was another Genocide Memorial and very graphic. I had quite the shock. I could not make myself go underground to look. It has been left pretty much as the action happened. So many went to the church for safety and protection, but ended up losing their lives.... More

Usually combined with Ntamara visit, I think they have some overlap but also complement each other. This is a bit smaller but equally eye-opening and sad.

If you go to the Genocide memorial you probably don't need to see this as well but it was certainly powerful and moving to be in a place where so many people were slaughtered. To see the clothes of the victims and the shrapnel scarred church walls. And you are invited to go into the mass graves and be in... More
