We've been early in the morning to avoid the crowd. There are hundreds climbing the see the crater! So when we left pas bellecombe there were 7°Celsius, when we came back (30°). The path is very easy to follow, there is a very big parking place, in fact the road finishes in the parkind place. The last 5,6 km before... More

We had been led to believe that Reunion had little to offer. Not so. We were on a cruise and took the tour to the active volcano. The drive was incredible in itself, from sea level to cloud infested forest, to barren volcanic landscape and roads that twisted and turned over an ever varying landscape. And the information and views... More

Experience of a lifetime. Piton de Fournaise was out of this world and we were fortunate to have a clear view. Reunion is a present surprise all over. Neat first world country. Most imperssive road in construction between port and st Denis. All over a visit worth while.

Piton de Fournaise is Reunion Islands premier active volcano. It's quite a drive just to get to the edge of the old crater but well worth the effort. Once you've parked up you descend some stairs down the wall of the old crater then traverse a hellish alien landscape devoid of life towards the new inner crater. The terrain is... More

No trip to Reunion would be complete without seeing one of the worlds most active volcanos. Aim to get there early (as close to sunrise as your body will allow) as both the crowds and weather descend as the day progresses. The early start will be reward with vistas like no other and a real sense of being somewhere special.... More

It may take up to two hours to drive to this destination from Saint-Denis but it is well worth it to get high in the island where the air is cool and the sights are beautiful. The last approximately 3-4 kilometers of the road are unpaved and dusty and the volcanic area looks like a moonscape. I missed a recent... More

The current eruption and a million visitors didn't destroy the awesome experience of visiting the Piton at sunset to see the area and then the eruption in the dark (with head torches). Due to the insane traffic we had to park 2km away and walk up to the view point and walk back in the dark with crazy wind/dust then... More

A spectacular environment and views like nothing I have ever seen. We were taken up there by our guide Alexis of Ayapana - he was amazing explaining about the plants and geological formations we saw. I strongly recommend his services. You need to have appropriate footwear as the trek to the top is challenging on jagged solid lava. Also remember... More

The trip to reach the volcano is something unique, from the warm weather of the beach until the cold of the to of the peak, you will drive through different landscapes, from lush vegetation to rock desert before reaching the volcano, it's really a must do while on the island. there's a path to reach "Pas de Bellecombe", remember to... We left our hotel at 05h30 for a 2 hour drive to the volcano. So we started the hike quite early before the cloud cover in the afternoon. Make sure to wear appropriate shoes for the hike of 12 km, as the rocks are quite sharp and uneven. Also make sure to take clothing for all weather situations (layers). We... More
