This imposing building close to the centre of Windhoek is well worth a visit even if only for the fantastic view provided from the restaurant on the top floor. The museum is very obviously a work in progress but the completed exhibits were of good quality and gave an insight into Namibia's history. I particularly liked the three glass sided... More

This museum consists mostly of photographs depicting the history of transition from colonial Namibia to democracy. It also uses overtly emotive paintings and art to sell a very specific political narrative. Disappointing and slightly gaudy.

We really did not enjoy the visit to the independence museum. The exhibits focus on size rather than quality.

Very well organised museum with an impressive collection of modern political history items, just no explanation or description to help a visitor understand what they are seeing. I really enjoyed my visit and was captured by the exhibits but had to search Namibian modern history online to make sense of them. I dont think it would take much effort to... More

If you want an unparalleled view into how Namibia came into being, you have to make a turn into the museum. Directly adjacent to parliament gardens, it offers an insight into the different cultural associations and groups within the country and their contribution to Namibias independence.

I have to admit, I have a secret fascination with North Korea. This museum is about as close as you can get to experiencing the art of the hermit kingdom. Overwhelming murals with amazing detail. The museum is also free. Now for the not-so-great aspects. The museum seems thin on actual historical detail (maybe the size is just too massive)?... More

Quite difficult to certain opening times! We went back later in the day (first tried around 10 am) and visited the displays. A bit short on explanation but lots of things to look at and great views from the recently opened restaurant at the top. For us it was worthwhile for the view and lunch but we had to look... More

We visited the Independence Museum in Windhoek. We found it interesting to see the history of the peoples there and their struggle for survival and independence first from Germany, then from South Africa. Sam Nujoma figures prominently in multiple displays, as he should given his great contribution to Namibia's current situation. We thought this museum was more of a natural... More
