It is definitely an eye opening experience to see Katatura. However, I would recommend to go with a guide that is familiar with the area. A 1/2 day tour is enough time to visit it. But definitely worth the visit.

We went there to sample some of the local meats and variety of local grains and veggies. Definitive market for local flavor.

Our guide would not let us out of the minibus - and told us to take photos discreetly. Would we like it if tourists came around looking at our houses? I am not sure why travel agencies include such tours in their itinerary. Unless you...More

We were taken here by our guide and moved by the contrast with other parts of the city. We were surprised by the number of car washes and barbers shops. The shanty buildings are fine for the normal dry weather, but one fears for the...More

I live in the area. Even if you are driving your own car it is ok, as long as you don't have any valuables in sight.
