Known as the lemon squeezer for obvious reasons... Well worth a visit if you're nearby. Very interesting shape, built early 1960s and currently undergoing repairs to the exterior (visible from the rear of the church). We visited on a Sunday, so were lucky enough to...More

Trying to describe the Santo António da Polana can be en exercise in kitchenware, since it really looks like an elongated orange press on the outside. By itself, its exterior is enough to leave you amazed. But once you step inside and plunge into the...More

At Maputo's affluent Polana quarter, you will find this modern church - "Igreja de Santo António da Polana". It was designed by famous Portuguese architect Nuno Craveiro Lopes and inaugurated in 1962. Its shape resembles an "inverted flower" or, as it is most popularly known,...More

Sunday mass in Portuguese and Shangaan at 7:30, 11:00 am and 18:00 pm. Joyous and animated choir and inspired sermons. This is mainly a place of worship with nice stained glass windows that inspire prayer. Not a tourist attraction!

Although this church has significance to the people, honestly it is not very attractive. I will do more research on its history but there are many gorgeous buildings and churches in Maputo - I don't think this is one of them.

Much needed work is being carried out to keep this beautiful monument. The roof is being reinforced as well as the tower. Thumbs up!
