Went to spend some time in quiet early on Saturday but seems that an event was happening so I only stayed for ten minutes. The interior is very unique but I couldn't find the Tabernacle, if it was what I think it was it didn't have the red candles so I couldn't identify it.

We stopped here on our tour of Maputo. While the street view is stunning, it was the interior that really got our attention. An English-speaking docent took us for a tour, accessed via the residence hallway. He explained a Portuguese architect had designed a central altar but the accoustics from there become an echo, so it was moved to the front.
The morning sun provided quite a lightshow from the dome's stained glass.

The stained windows and unusual architecture were quite simply, stunning. Even though they were busy with some maintenance, it still couldn't detract from the experience. This stop has to be added to your visit to Maputo!

I've seen a lot in maputo during my travels and it was worth seeing. There is amazing Architect and beaches. The Elephant reserve near there is full of wild when you drive through.

The architect Nuno Craveiro Lopes was inspired by an inverted flower, but the people saw a lemon squeezer. The use of concrete enabled 20th century architects to use modern forms in their design. The church was built in 1962. To the frustration of the architect the original design was changed by the priests. Originally the altar was envisaged to be in the middle under the dome with the colorful top.

Hopped over there after visiting the art market nearby. It's near the Dutch Embassy on a quiet and rich street. The place was going through renovations and I could not get in. I'm not sure how long the renovation will be on for.

Under renovation at the moment and only accessible through the back gate.
Even then you can only see inside through a couple of broken window slats.
Worth visiting though because it really looks unusual.
“Lemon squeezer” really is the right term for it!
