I went here twice during my days in Maputo. Great bands and diverse crowd in a big open room. Jump in a taxi and go!

Live band karaoke with the most amazing host; Nandele Maguni.
We used to go there with friends on tuesdays when we lived in Maputo in 2012.
If you like karaoke this is the best you can get - a good band, good sound and a wild crowd. Feel like a popstar :-)

If you like a bar with live music with local environment, you must visit Gil Vicente. If you like karaoke, on Tuesdays there is a live band that plays the soundtrack, and the rest it's the singer performance...gets crowded. Starts to get interesting after 23h.

Some weekends they tend to have some good local music, but quite often it is not that good and there are bearly anyone there. The prices are quite expensive so dont expect to bump into to many locals. i'd rather go for Assosciacao de Musica or a sunday at Nucleo de Arte.

We first went on a Tuesday, only to be disappointed as it was closed.
Tonight we we went on a Wednesday and it was all happening, hip Mozambique music with a lot of improv and some wild jam sessions.
All the action happens on Wens night through to Sat night.
Definitely worth a visit.

Having arrived in Maputo on a Tuesday, we decided to check out Gil Vicente's - arrived at about 11 and there was no band yet and only a few people in there. A long day's travel had us tired so we stuck around and waited for the band to arrive - they really were excellent.
Once the "karaoke" singers went up the atmosphere cranked up a notch, though this was not your screeching drunks kind of show, the singers were incredibly talented while we were there.
A cover charge of 20 mets applies, and a beer is about 10 mets so great value for a night out.

Gil is a classic of Maputo. You can't miss it on tuesday nights as it is the only place booming. The concerts are also really good and diversified, a great place for young local artists to showcase their skills and for the veteran musicians to meet their public in a small scene. Godd vibes

The place looks small but managed to host a stage and a decent number of patrons. I heard it's one of the best places for live music in Maputo so i was eager to go, the artist playing that night is apparently a maputo legend so it was a nice concert
