Since 1885 this botanical garden survived in the old center of Maputo. Massive tall tropical trees provide shade. There is a small pond and the trails through divers vegetation are well maintained. Birds and bats have chosen the garden to be their home. It is a very tranquil place, excellent for a walk in the morning. Hardly suitable for running as the garden is rather small.

We passed by this public park while walking in the old city. Nice place to rest and relax and maybe pose for some pictures with lovely green trees around. We also saw many bats flying there during morning

We were amazed at the quality of the botanical gardens. Lots of weddings underway on the Saturday we visited. So crowded! Great to see the families all together. Could not tell if these were ceremonies or for photos before/after the weddings.

Tunduru Gardens reopened in 2015 after falling into disrepair. It is a peaceful walk through the city. Although $3.5 million has been spent, there is still much work to do. Disappointing was the lack of labels on the trees and plants as expected in a botanic garden. Apparently these have been vandalized. The greenhouse is no longer opened to the public. There is one area that is inhabited by fox bats, which are either fascinating or terrifying, depending on your perspective. There is a small restaurant with decent food in the garden.

It's a beautiful garden, great for some shade during the hottest hours of the day. Stroll around its paths seeing the different types of trees.

The high point, however, is watching the dozens of marriages that take place there I'm the weekends. Just find a nice spot and do a bit of people watching. You'll see couples getting married with their families singing and dancing behind them in an impressive choral. You should see an almost never ending stream of couples coming in and out of the gardens. It's very beautiful.

The gardens were designed in 1885 by British gardener Thomas Honney, and are located one block south of Freedom Square. We entered through a pedestrian gate for an early morning run. We saw beautiful old trees and various herb gardens are being established. .

You can circumnavigate the whole area in 10 minutes, but whatever you see is beautiful and maintained. Some large trees, a small lake, a few flower beds and a ton of birds screaming. But that's it.

My only complaint, is not regarding the size, but the maintainers could at least put some boards against the trees to tell the visitors about their breed, history and interesting facts. There's nothing really to read.

Overall, it's quite good compared to usual parks.

we arrived there in a very hot day, many wedding groups were there to celebrate the wedding and sing song together. it was nice to see many people having nice moment there.
we wanted to leave the park, but all corners and doors of the park were closed and locked with big locks. so we had to go all way back to the main gate which was very unpleasant. i think the borders of parks should be open not to feel we are in a cage.

This garden is not very big, but it nice to have a stroll and a look to the different tree species. Those we planted the trees at the end of the 19th century could not enjoy the trees, as I did, now they are fully grown. I can recommand a visit. Entry is free.

Good place to relax for a few minutes, under the shade of a tree. Wish I had more time here to explore the garden.
