Very beautiful and peaceful place amidst the city of Port Louis . We visited as part of the North Tour and were the only ones in the temple. Very interesting and intricate carvings . Kept very clean . You had to take your shoes off at the entrance . Spent 30 mins looking around .

While planning our trip to Mauritius months in advance, we first read about this temple, and we immediately knew we had to visit. Seeing pictures of the temple online gives an impression of its beauty, but visiting it personally is an amazing experience. Of course, being respectful is of paramount importance when visiting a place like this. For example, you shouldn't take pictures inside the temple complex. If you have any questions there will be people around the complex ready to help you.

I was surprised to come across this temple which was located in a crowded area of the city. It sat unassumingly as various devotees entered and exited it. The smell of the agarbathis was very strong in the air. Ensure to remove your footwear outside the temple when entering. Very nice ambience.

A beautiful colorful Tamil temple. Don’t forget to take off your shoes although we didn’t see any guide or guard.
No English signage! We couldn’t find when it was built!
Festivals info all written in local language!
But certainly worth a visit.

We visited the Kaylasson Temple, or Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen Kovil as it’s otherwise known, whilst on a day trip to Port Louis during our honeymoon in October 2019.

The Hindu temple is located on the outskirts of Port Louis and is dedicated to the god "Shiva".

The temple itself is absolutely stunning and the pictures I took don't do it justice. The colours are so bold and striking it literally takes your breath away. Make sure your camera is charged when you visit as you will definitely use it. I would advise sensible clothing when visiting the temple as it is a place of worship, and remember to take off your shoes before you go inside the temple.

There is no charge for visiting the temple and there is a large car park onsite. I would recommend spending a good hour to fully appreciate this magnificent building. If you like peacocks, you can see them at the rear of the temple.

If you are visiting Port Louis, then this is something you definitely should not miss.

Highly recommended – 10/10.
