A great visit. Very interesting facts regarding the history. Very knowledgeable tour guide. The active vertical tombs were by far the most interesting aspect of my visit. Love the interactive and engaging staff.

This is one of the most important historical places in Addis, but the way it is maintained it very depressing. You will see the most important historical documents, artefacts etc but everything is kept in a very sad way. I hope they renovate it ASAP.

A lot of people talk Ethiopia and Haile Selassie I come to mind. Menelik was a great emperor know as one of the unifiers of ethiopia and should not go unnoticed. Apparently he built this palace himself even though he had an army that could have done it for him. He was such a genius. Although this place is real old it should be visited.

We visited the palace during our trip to Entoto Marayam Church. It was interesting to see the reversion he took from European architecture to a more basic structure. Easy to add onto the trip to the church

Not far from the city you can escape the hustel and bustle of Addis and visit Menelik's Palace which is still intact.
Also there is a small museum of Royal Attire.

The museum on site was interesting with charming English speaking guide. The guide in Palace area did not speak any English but a local translated for me. Seems to be falling apart despite recent refurbishment but definitely worth a visit when on Entoto

Menelik palace sits on the hill above Addis at about 3,000 metres altitude. Good place to visit if you have 90 minutes available, see some of the history of a historic country

An interesting visit to Entoto where the museum was expensive to visit. One was then forced to be shown around by a "bored" guide who expected to be tipped.
The palace in contrast, a very simple structure, showed what a humble life that Menelik 11 and his wife Tailu had when they first arrived to set up the capital of Ethiopia in the 1860's.

Located at the top of Entoto hill, you will end up going to the palace if you are already visiting St Mary's church. The palace is interesting and understated. It is well worth a walk around. Sadly the grounds are poorly maintained. It could be so much better.
