Non Muslims are not allowed in. There is a sign saying so, but don’t know if you could get in if you tried. You can still see it from the outside but it is hard to appreciate as the surrounded medina shops are all around it so you don’t get a clear view of it.

One of the items I planned to visit in the Medina is this mosque. I purposely looked for it and was disappointed to learn that it is not opened to the non- muslims. There is a Money Exchange place near it as well stores selling spices.

Note that there other mosques I saw while walking around the Medina. They have ornate
beautiful entrance doors that distinguish them fro the doors of the stores near them. They were all closed at the time of my visit.

Also known as El Zituna Mosque this is oldest Mosque at the centre of Medina, supposed to have been built in 732 AD, believed to be built on the remains of Byzantine Basilica. Impressive architecture, vast courtyard, nine entrances, a great place of learning, attracting locals as well as informed tourists. This Mosque reported to have hosted first and greatest Universities in the history of Islam. As this is an active place of worship it's necessary to wear proper dress and maintain decorum. Entry is free.

We walked by this famous mosque in the center of the Medina but we couldn't see much. Tourists are banned here and you can only enter if you are going to pray.
This is true of all mosques in Tunisia.

despite the sign pasted on the entry door, it appears that both muslims and non-muslims are allowed to enter this mosque.

the first entry is into the courtyard, then following that, into the prayer halls. as it is with all mosques, genders are segregated so if you are female, head to the left, and male head to the right

The Mosque is directly across from Kasbah Square and the Medina. It has a lovely square minaret. We did not go inside.

Drop by if you have the time. It is just at the end of the bazaar street of the medina. Non-muslims might have access issues to certain parts of the mosque. No entry fees charged.
