This is beautiful sights with a amazing view on the Matmata hills. The Berbers of Matmata, a small village in southern Tunisia traditionally live in caves to escape the heat in the past from the enemy. The Matmata Plateau, where these types of dwellings are found, lies next to a narrow corridor which is the only land path between Libya And Tunisia. This region has been overrun by invaders throughout history, forcing the Berbers to retreat to the plateau where they began to dig homes high in the mountains. Today, these cave dwellings are a major tourist attraction and a wonderful example of human rapport and survival.

This little souvenir shop/cafe is located on top of a mointain that overlooks large hills and a small village. It has a very nice view that give you some ideas about the geagraphy of the region. They also sell some quality rugs and carpets.

The way to matmata was so awesome on the beautiful hills. The weather in first week of June was perfected cool. Our tour guide explained the barber houses inside the mountains are naturally cool in 18 degree celtus . The house owner warmly welcome us
We had a great traditional lunch inside the cave restaurant .On the way back to douz we stopped at cafe for coffee. There is amazing beautiful huge desert roses in front of the cafe. Incredibly stunning!

I've passed with some friends in this area and really we enjoyed the few time we spent there! It's an excellent place with a amazing view over the Matmata mountains. The owner Abdallah is really kind. Nice place, if you pass by there one day you should stop ...

The village itself is nothing special, but the landscape around it is simply stunning, like a hilly desert, full of dry river beds and a few of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. We also visited two traditional Berber houses, excavated on the rocks, with cave-like rooms and very nice owners.
