The type of desert you see in the movies is right here at Ksar Ghillane. Two minutes walk from the camp and it's endless sand dunes. The thermal spring in the oasis is refreshing but warm to swim in. Perhaps inevitably the spring is at the centre of half a dozen shops and cafes so it doesn't exactly feel like... More

The Sahara, with amazing dunes nearby, location of many a film including The English Patient, after driving for hours through the desert we reached the oasis and it was great to swim in the warm water and chill away from the desert heat for a few hours! Go to Azmela, 20km further into the desert to explore the dune landscape.

For sure a good decision going there instead of Tozeur. We traveled there from Matmata, aprox 2 hours driving. Arrived in oasis and arranged a quad trip to Roman fort and meal for later. Trip was fantastic, guide really took care of us driving and stopping every time. Staying in the fort, at the top of a hill, looking to... More

Only there briely but the sahara is just somet hing to be see. The stars at night are, of course, amazing. Having tea with the local Berbers around the campfire was lovely. The place could be crowded during the high season. Like any oasis, people flock to it. The natural hot spring pool looks a bit off but I'm told... More

My partner and I did not intend to travel deep into the Sahara. But...as a couple traveling independently we heard coming to Ksar Ghilane was not to be missed - the "ultimate desert experience" we were told by a guide. So we hired a 4 wheel drive plus driver in Matmata, spent one night at Ksar Ghilane, then the driver... More

My husband and I visited Tunisia recently with a tour group and stayed at the campsite oasis at Ksar Ghilane which we reached by 4x4 wheel drives. It was an amazing place and as soon as we arrived we jumped in the beautiful pool and swam beneath the palm trees. Our tent was airconditioned and comfortable with a great bathroom.... More

This place is truly an experience you wont forget any time soon. We were staying for one night, in comfortable tents. In the evening it was a little warm, but keep the tent vented, then you'll be fine. There is a guard watcing the area, so you can sleep safely, and not worrying. You have the possibilty to take a... I went on a short tour from Tozeur to Gabes via Ksar Ghilane, and it was one of the most magical experiences of my life. The great expanse of the Sahara desert, the feeling of utter insignificance, being a mere dot in the landscape... It's truly overwhelming and awe-inspiring how incredible this place is. Plus, riding a camel to an... More
