Very difficult and long trip down the world's bumpiest road. Not worth it. The "museum" was pathetic. Your time is better spent elsewhere in the Serengeti. Look this up online.

the museum is in the middle of being expanded, so there are not as many artifacts as there should be for such a historically significant site but once completed this should be a must stop on anyones trip. Fascinating

Dropped in here on the way from Serengeti to Manyara. Interesting and worth the short stop-over. Views are impressive, too.

Fortunately only 6 kms off the main road. This stop can be done in less than an hour. There is a lecture that we could have done without. Hopefully the boy was just filling in for the real guy. Seeing the fossils was amazing as...More

...I think it is a dusty tourist trap in the middle of safari country. Other than some molds, there really isn't much to see. After my second trip to Tanzania I chose not to stop here.

I was really disappointed when I visited Olduvai Museum in Serengeti National Park. The Museum consists of two really small rooms with some posters and some indifferent skulls of animals. Outside is a view point, nothing special. A guide is walking around and explaining about...More

This is a very educative and interesting place. Got to see fossils and bones of extinct animals, the early hominid.

I guess I was so impressed by the amazing finds the Leakeys made during the early middle 20th century, that I somehow expected the gorge itself to be spectacular. It's just a gorge. Worth visiting if you're in the vicinity and are interested in evolution.

This was an interesting stop during our safari trip. This an important archeological site where early human species occupied the area. Homo sapiens is dated to have occupied the site 17,000 years ago. A talk is given by a local guide explaining the history &...More

I think the answer is that you have to prearrange going down into the gorge. Most visitors are limited to the museum that is at the top of the gorge, this is typically what is included with Safaris However, I think it is... More
