For beginners such as myself I do not advise this route as more time is needed to acclimatise, which is why I didnt quite make the peak. Altitude sickness got the the better of me as soon as i got to base camp i began feeling all the symptoms. But generally the hike was a great experience and I don't regret trying. My guide and porters were very helpful and friendly until second from last day he mentioned twice about tipping which I am aware of and I don't need reminding especially before the trek had finished.. we got to the end and all of a sudden a 5th man appeared from nowhere which I was told I had to tip him also when I was clearly told the crew was 4 members!! Absolute scam. So i gave a little more anyways more than 120 dollars in tips and they looked disgusted with it, not thankful at all. I felt like taking the money and saying fine have nothing. This put a downer on the whole trip. Shame.

Gilli was the perfect guide and driver together in 1. He knows the places to look for with help of the environment supported by the radio with his fellow guides. He is prompt in time as always and has a good network of people around him to make the extra mile. Purely because of that we were able to make the most of our 5 day safari with TrueViews organized by CharliesTravel

We had such a wonderful time during our safari trip in Tanzania. It was more beautiful than we could have dreamed of. Gili, our guide, gave much information about all the animals and was very energetic! :) We saw the whole big five, wauw!! Calvin, the private chef, took care of our lunch and dinner every day. Gili and Calvin were a true plus to our experience! Very much recommended!!

We live in Tanzania and take visitors on safari every year. No two trips are ever the same because the weather is different, the animals are always on the move and may not be around, and each guide has his own strengths and weaknesses. On this trip, Pascal was our driver and guide. He is one of the safest drivers we've encountered here and I never feel anxious with him behind the wheel. Because we must leave very early in the morning to make the 3.5 hour drive to Tarangire Park, we always have a great picnic breakfast along the way. I like that we can give Pascal an idea of what we would like to eat and just how long we want to stop, and he works to meet those needs. He's been in the guide business for many years and is very experienced. He knows where to find the animals and can spot them from quite a distance. On this trip, we had gotten very close to a small family of giraffe (my favorite) and just watched them for a while. Lots of zebra, wildebeast, antelope/impala, elephants, warthogs, baboons, etc. It's always difficult, and sometimes impossible, to find any of the big cats in this particular park, but Pascal managed to find 2 cheetahs resting under a tree in the heat of the afternoon sun. He was able to get us sooo close to look at them, and our pictures came out amazing! That was the thrill of a lifetime! Although Pascal is a pretty quiet, reserved guy, he definitely knows everything about the animals, birds and wildlife in the area. I appreciate that he isn't always talking nonstop--trying to earn a tip--but rather allowing us to enjoy the beauty and ready to be engaged when we want to know something. If you want to talk, he'll accommodate you. If you don't, he respects that also. This is an honest company run by someone who wants his clients to have a good experience. Sometimes things don't always go as planned, but he's always been willing to fix problems if it's within his ability. I would highly recommend True Views!

I used True Views for both a safari and Mt Kilimanjaro climb. The safari (Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro national parks) was very good, and so was most of the Mt Kilimanjaro trek. I found the actual morning climb up the mountain hard, reaching Stellar Point. I was mentally and physically tired as I had a sore leg. The lead guide was guiding me on the way up and encouraged me to reach Stellar Point. Another member of our group was behind me with another guide supporting her. (The other members of the group were in front of us with a pro-active guide, who encouraged them to reach the summit.) However, as soon as us two stragglers reached Stellar Point, the lead guide actively discouraged us from going onward to the summit. He said, amongst other things, that we would get a certificate for reaching Stellar Point, implying there was no benefit in going further (the other person continued to the summit). The certificate was not the reason for reaching the summit; it was the achievement. I approached the lead guide about my concern the following day (the last day of the trek). I said he should’ve encouraged us to continue to the summit, and he responded that safety of the person was the issue. My safety wasn’t an issue climbing to Stellar Point as the guide very rarely came near me on the ascent, generally being about 10 metres or so in front of me. He didn’t examine me for altitude illness at any stage, nor did I feel any of the symptoms of it. My only conclusion is that the guide, having the reached Stellar Point, just wanted to do down the mountain. This is supported by him generally being 10-20 metres in front of me on the way down, and on occasions, much greater distances than that. Nor was there any mention from him regarding our safety. I’m reluctant to mention this as in all other respects, he did a good job as chief guide. I am probably still prepared to recommend True Views to other people, however, I will advise people to make sure they tell the company to have guides that actively encourage people when climbing the mountain . I spent a lot of money to go to Tanzania for the experience of a lifetime. That experience has been dashed as I now don’t know whether I could’ve reached the summit if I had had encouragement from the guide to continue to the summit rather than discouragement.
